A new Carmel High School student, Victoria Quan, comes all the way from Belize to Carmel to pursue new experiences, where she traverses a new life

by Diana Smith, Bloomington High School North

Victoria Quan is a coming up senior at Carmel High School, but she only recently started this part of her life in Carmel. About six months ago, Quan moved from her lifelong home in Belize to Carmel; this was originally promoted by her parents, as they wanted her to experience a place outside of her hometown. Although living with her aunt and uncle in an unfamiliar area to her was nerve racking at first, Quan soon found some nice things about her new living arrangement.

She said “I really like the new culture. The people here are great.  It’s nice to know that there’s easier access to some things.”

Rising Greenwood sophomore Shyanne DeBoard details her experience becoming a volleyball manager and the impact it has had on her

by Victoria Quan, Carmel High School

In her freshman year, rising Greenwood sophomore Shyanne DeBoard was interested in volleyball. To her, it seemed like a repetitive sport with no crazy rules; but there was still enough variety through the different positions offered to make it interesting.

According to DeBoard, volleyball players have roles as hitters (who jump and send the ball over the net), passers (who pass the ball to teammates), and liberos (who dive for the ball). She was specifically interested in being a passer or libero. However, although she was interested in positions in the sport, she took on a different position: being a manager.

This originally happened because DeBoard did not make the team as a player, but the coach invited …

Private School vs. Public School

by: Shyanne DeBoard, Greenwood Community High School

When starting a new school, it’s easy to fall behind and have a hard time catching up. However, this wasn’t the case for Diana Smith. At her previous private school, Harmony, Diana did not feel challenged.

She had ups and downs to her old school, such as her least favorite class, science, which was a boring subject for her, and included a bad teacher. A positive from Harmony was an amazing teacher that she had for all of her time there, and they became very close.

Another thing that she enjoyed at her previous school was that people were super friendly. Everyone knew everyone, so there was no reason to gossip. Things change when you go to a public school. She enjoyed her current school, Bloomington, much more. She felt challenged and like she is really …

New Beginnings, New Obstacle

By Maryn Zaborowsky, Greenwood Community High School

Senior Juhee Tyagi reaches for a flower. Tyagi loved the change in color through the flower because it reminded her of her change in show choir groups.

Walking into a new show choir group, Juhee Tyagi finds it nerve-racking to sing alongside boys for the first time.

Senior Juhee Tyagi’s class was the first to experience the new show choir group.

“At first, I felt very intimidated by the idea of having a mixed show choir group of both girls and boys. I was used to a sisterhood relationship from my previous show choir group, Allegro. Allegro provided me with multiple opportunities with supportive friends and healthy competition,” Tyagi said.

Getting more comfortable with the show choir group, Juhee experienced a different bond than before.

“In this new group, New Edition, I gained relationships with people that …

Fashion Forward

By Carissa Myers, Brownsburg High School

Striking a pose, Erin Lock ’25 shows off her creative outfit in Franklin Hall. Lock enjoys wearing gothic colors and cottagecore clothing styles.

Erin Lock is a 17 year old and an incoming senior at Hamilton Southeastern High School. She has a compact clothing style. It’s not all over the place, like some of our clothing styles are. Sometimes you just throw on an outfit and leave for the day, other times you just actually take the time and choose. Not Erin though.

She gets her clothing from her grandma and other cute antique boutiques. Her mom also supplied her with clothes that match her cottage-core and goth clothing style.

Fashion is an important part to Erin because it distracts you from other people and you don’t have to stress getting ready for school or a …

What’s the Case?

High School is an important part of everyone’s lives. You get to dive deep into your passions, meet new people, and learn many skills like time management. Greenwood High School senior, Eleanor Guipe, was able to take advantage of these opportunities.

Guipe was very busy the past three years at Greenwood High. Between being a member of the swim team, managing social media for both her publication team and school organization “Bring Change to Mind”, and working as a lifeguard at a local pool, she had to fight the feeling of burnout.

Despite the many hours spent at swim practices and in the publications room, she never let these activities triumph her love for true crime.

Being strongly family-oriented, Guipe learned of her passion for crime because of her mom when they began watching crime shows together, she couldn’t …
