A Junior Steps into EIC Position

After 15 years of only having senior editors in chief at Zionsville High School, Avery Krieble will be the first to take on the role as a junior. While only having nine returning staff members, Krieble strives to improve the efficiency and community of the staff while continuing to teach newcomers the art of a yearbook.

Searching Beyond the Spotlight
Masked with the scent of cocoa powder, and leaving with a fundraising bin in hand, Bloomington High School South senior Scarlett Irwin juggles her various interests and activities. Irwin mentioned that her passions always shifted in life, especially after quitting gymnastics after almost seven years because what she called a “toxic” situation.
“That (gymnastics) was a pretty big passion but then that became pretty toxic,” Irwin said. “I tried track, horseback riding, volleyball, show choir, lacrosse, and lot’s of other things. But I haven’t found anything since I’ve stopped (gymnastics).”
Irwin was not alone in her struggles. According to the New York Post, 22% of public high school students felt “very prepared” for life after graduation. An Animals Purpose
Presley Luther is a senior enrolled at Martinsville high school, located in a fairly small town in Indiana. Presley enjoys volunteering, she said “It is very important for me to do my volunteer work because it is my special way of showing my appreciation and. way to give back to the community. It’s also my way of making sure my town is equipped with what they need.” Presley also enjoys fishing with her boyfriend of two years, as it is a way of bonding since he lives in a separate town from her. Although Presley enjoys all these activities, what she enjoys most is animals.

In the quaint town of Martinsville, where verdant hills are filled with cookie cutter houses, resides Junior Isabelle Hurst, an aspiring architect whose imagination knows no bounds. From her roots in this ‘close-knit’ community, she has cultivated a deep-seated passion for crafting spaces that inspire and uplift. Isabelle sketched different house designs. Isabelle said, “Every house has a story to tell.” She says, “I’m drawn to the way architecture can reflect the history, culture, and individuality of a community.” With each project, Isabelle strives to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and sustainable. She believes that architecture has the power to improve lives and shape the future. Unified as One

Briar Simpson is a fifteen year old, soon to be sophomore, who attends Greenwood High School located in Greenwood, Indiana. One of her favorite as well as most unique hobbies is participating in her school’s Unified Track and Field team. Briar joined the team as a freshman last year and plans to do it until her senior year. Briar’s older brother, a recent graduate of Greenwood, was in the sport as well. After watching him compete throughout the season, Briar decided to join.
Simpson’s role on her team is to participate in the different track and field activities, such as those normally seen in track and field, and to do these with special needs students on the team. Her favorite part about being in Unified Track and Field is the socialness of the sport …

A new Carmel High School student, Victoria Quan, comes all the way from Belize to Carmel to pursue new experiences, where she traverses a new life

Victoria Quan is a coming up senior at Carmel High School, but she only recently started this part of her life in Carmel. About six months ago, Quan moved from her lifelong home in Belize to Carmel; this was originally promoted by her parents, as they wanted her to experience a place outside of her hometown. Although living with her aunt and uncle in an unfamiliar area to her was nerve racking at first, Quan soon found some nice things about her new living arrangement.
She said “I really like the new culture. The people here are great. It’s nice to know that there’s easier access to some things.”

In the Chicken Coop

Senior Jessica Taylor isn’t any normal 4H-er. Instead of crafts, she handles chickens year round. Jessica is a part of many clubs such as Robotics, Yearbook, and Key club, and most importantly 4H.
4H is a kind of club or community people can join all around the US and engage in different fun activities, with projects and competitions. The 4 H’s stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. For the first 4 years of her 4H experience, she did pretty much normal things. These were things like crafts, projects, and even doing some cake decorating and shooting. Now, it’s more than that.
“I still have to do all of those projects, archery, and cake decor. Just now with showing these chickens at an annual competition, ” Taylor said.

Rising Greenwood sophomore Shyanne DeBoard details her experience becoming a volleyball manager and the impact it has had on her

In her freshman year, rising Greenwood sophomore Shyanne DeBoard was interested in volleyball. To her, it seemed like a repetitive sport with no crazy rules; but there was still enough variety through the different positions offered to make it interesting.
According to DeBoard, volleyball players have roles as hitters (who jump and send the ball over the net), passers (who pass the ball to teammates), and liberos (who dive for the ball). She was specifically interested in being a passer or libero. However, although she was interested in positions in the sport, she took on a different position: being a manager.

Private School vs. Public School

When starting a new school, it’s easy to fall behind and have a hard time catching up. However, this wasn’t the case for Diana Smith. At her previous private school, Harmony, Diana did not feel challenged.
She had ups and downs to her old school, such as her least favorite class, science, which was a boring subject for her, and included a bad teacher. A positive from Harmony was an amazing teacher that she had for all of her time there, and they became very close.

New Beginnings, New Obstacle

Senior Juhee Tyagi reaches for a flower. Tyagi loved the change in color through the flower because it reminded her of her change in show choir groups.
Walking into a new show choir group, Juhee Tyagi finds it nerve-racking to sing alongside boys for the first time.
Senior Juhee Tyagi’s class was the first to experience the new show choir group.
“At first, I felt very intimidated by the idea of having a mixed show choir group of both girls and boys. I was used to a sisterhood relationship from my previous show choir group, Allegro. Allegro provided me with multiple opportunities with supportive friends and healthy competition,” Tyagi said.
Getting more comfortable with the show choir group, Juhee experienced a different bond than before.
