Yearbook
Side Hustle
Growing from an enjoyment of taking sports photos for yearbook, Britain Givens, rising senior at Southport High School, never found someone high quality to take his sports pictures, so instead he became that person. He decided to create his own way, through a website, to share with athletes their pictures.
“I had to take pictures for a yearbook event, because they didn’t have a photographer.” Givens said. “So, I went and took pictures and I sent them out to a few of the players and they thought they were good photos and asked me to come to more games for pictures.” That’s when Givens started up a website (picvudu) to give access to the athletes for them to purchase and browse through.
Givens doesn’t just see this as an opportunity for a quick way to make money, he sees it as meaningful …

New Beginnings
Senior Mackenzie Roberts obtains new skills to help her take on a new role on her yearbook staff
The yearbook is a timeline, a time capsule, a love letter. It has to encapsulate what that specific year was like while it happens, which is not an easy task. It takes many difficult hours of dedication. Editing, designing, reporting, the hard work of many staffers. It’s long nights staring at a computer screen, redesigning spreads and graphics, and correcting proofs. But it’s all gratifying in the end when the book gets sent out, with excited faces of students picking themselves out, and the staffers know what their work was worth it.
One of those dedicated staffers was senior Mackenzie Roberts, senior editor at the Hamilton Southeastern Sceptre Yearbook. She was in charge of the senior portraits, senior ads, seniors ads, and the people section is …

Growing with grace
Adjusting the focus of her camera, junior Ally Swearingen takes a picture of the light shining through the tree leaves. As well as nature, her favorite things to photograph were portraits and macro shots.
She described her mother, a photographer and a ballerina, as a woman with grace. Grace, defined as simple elegance, to which she received her middle name. Like her mother, junior Ally Swearingen strived to become like her mother through dancing. However, it was their affinity for photography that she grew to love.
“She could see an image in her head and capture a moment in time forever. It’s something I’ve found insanely beautiful and cool as a child and what inspired me to do what it is I do today,” Swearingen said.
At the age of 10, her mother bought her a camera. Since then, she underwent …

What’s behind it all
Indiana sophomore captures the moment.
15 years old with a broad outlook on life, Carroll High School sophomore Lilly Essex spends her time watching true crime, involved in musical theater, reading books, and listening to podcasts. She is consistently eager for more information and looks for a deeper meaning behind it all.
Essex finds as she is growing up, she not only looks at something, but wants to see why it is the way it is. “ ‘Capture the moment’ fits [in my life] because I try to see the bigger picture, see what is behind it,” Essex said.

Double Duty
Junior year was infamous for its grueling workload which caused some individuals to shy away from taking on new responsibilities, not Alyssa Cirillo. As her sophomore year came to a close, she was first approached by her geometry teacher, the Carroll High School football coach.
“He actually coached my dad, my uncle and my cousin and graduated with one of them…so I kind of had a little bit of a connection with him,” Cirillo said.
Coach Dinan was in need of new managers given that most of his managers were seniors. Cirillo was offered a managing spot and prepared for the expectations of her new role.
“The season starts July 31st and I have to go to every practice every day…we get water, help with the IPads, wrap ankles, get ice, and just be the helpers on the sidelines,” Cirillo said.

The Mind of Yearbook
Meredith Ziegler looks at her school’s yearbook.
Meredith Ziegler is an upcoming senior at Southport High School in Indianapolis, IN.

Now three years later, Ziegler is Design Editor for her school’s book for the past two years.
While Yearbook is something she has been interested in, she has an interest in psychology. “I want to go to Marion College and I’m going to be in the counseling department and then I’m probably going to graduate with a degree in psychology and counseling. I had a great therapist and so then that made me want to become …
