Redefining the Role

A Junior Steps into EIC Position

By Claire Watrous, Bloomington High School North

After 15 years of only having senior editors in chief at Zionsville High School, Avery Krieble will be the first to take on the role as a junior. While only having nine returning staff members, Krieble strives to improve the efficiency and community of the staff while continuing to teach newcomers the art of a yearbook.

Krieble said, “I found out the first week of April … It was really cool, they made me a sign, and gave me a balloon I had to carry around the rest of the day.” After only being on staff for a year and a half, her friends surprised her with the news towards the end of the school year. “I felt really excited and then five minutes later it really hit me that I would be the one in charge, and the yearbook would be my job,” Krieble said.  After learning she’d be in charge, Krieble started making plans and setting goals for the upcoming year.  “We went into my sophomore year with only five returning staff members … and I got student life editor,” Krieble said.

Being a section editor helped Kreible gain the experience and learn how to be a strong leader. Last year, the Aerie staff had a big problem with missing deadlines and this year Krieble has a goal to change that.

Krieble said, “Going in with a more organized calendar with the deadlines so all the staff knows, and explain better to the new staff members how the yearbook works.”
