Bob Costello, owner of Village Deli, Soma, and Laughing Planet, described Bloomington restaurant landscape as constantly changing. In his 20 years owning the Deli, he’s seen some restaurants come and go quickly, while others survive and prosper.

Owning a restaurant in Bloomington has many internal and external challenges, he said.

New Switchyard Brewing head brewer Mitch Roelecke ‘has finally made it’

When he was young, Mitch Roelecke didn’t see brewing as part of his future. At Lakota West High School in Lakota, Ohio, he hadn’t given much thought to his career.

He grew up a gamer in Westchester, Ohio, and remembers spending weekends and nights at his friends’ houses having Local Area Network (LAN) parties. His favorite game is the original Halo, and it was his connection to the game and his childhood friends that started his career.

Finding Bloomingtonians to interview more difficult than the interview itself

Trying to interview people on the street at 9:30 a.m. on a Tuesday morning is not as easy as it sounds. I was shocked at how difficult it was to find interview subjects.

Last Tuesday, I tried to interview Bloomingtonians about international cuisine in town. I walked around the Courthouse Square and struggled to find four people to interview.

Bloomington’s diversity in ethnic cuisine satisfies residents

Bloomington residents believe the city has a wide variety of international restaurants, according to four interviews conducted on Oct. 1 in the Courthouse Square.

Jay Ladin, a 79-year-old Bloomington resident, enjoys what Bloomington offers. He said Afghani and Turkish cuisine are his favorite international tastes.

“I’m pretty happy with what’s here,” he said.

Max Turteltaub is and a senior at IU studying Online Sports Media with a concentration in Social Media from Los Angeles, Calif.
