Finding a solution to affordable housing is complex

Perry Township Trustee Dan Combs is aware of housing issues in the community. As a longtime Bloomington resident, he’s worked for many years to assist low-income residents and the homeless.

“The problem is people don’t have enough money,” Combs said. “You have to increase incomes, and you have to lower costs.”

Opinions vary on affordable housing market in Bloomington

Bloomington residents have mixed feelings about housing and whether it is affordable for long-time residents and students, according to a series of random interviews conducted along Kirkwood Avenue on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

IU’s growing student population affects housing costs and availability. As IU grows, more students means residents are looking for affordable houses and apartments.
