Bloomington does good job with the LGBTQ+ community

Twenty-year-old Zhuoran Wang, a Chinese junior at IU, is gay. He knew who he was when he was in primary school. He was young, but he still worried about how to let his parents know, and by being gay, it would be hard for him to get married.
“I didn’t tell my parents about my sexual orientation,” he said. “I am not sure how they will react. I also did not want them to be anxious because I am gay.”

Leticia Gonzalez enjoys helping Latino students feel comfortable in a diverse place

Leticia Gonzalez, 56, has been worked at La Casa Latino Culture Center (LCC) for about five years as an administrative assistant. She is happy to make sure everything is going well at LCC and help Latino students to feel more at home at IU.

“I really enjoy working with students,” she said. “And, I like to see our students be successful. I want to see them graduate. I want to see them doing well in their classes.”

Interviewing strangers is a valuable but challenging experience

At the end of September, I went out into the square of IU Auditorium to find out four random people who have special opinions about the racial diversity.
I planned to interview around eight subjects but it was hard to achieve. I found few people willing to respond, because many of them were busy with their own works.

Bloomington citizens are satisfied with racial and food diversity

Bloomington residents are comfortable with people around them who come from different places and countries, according to four random interviews around campus and town on Sept. 28, 2019.

They agreed that Bloomington is a diverse city but lacks diversity compared with other big cities in the United States. Moreover, more races in Bloomington bring food diversity here.

Bio: Yixuan Li

Yixuan Li
Yixuan Li is a junior at Indiana University majoring in journalism with a specialization in video journalism. She believes bearing witness and seeking the truth are journalist’s responsibilities. She is the President of Blazors studio, a group of IUB students who like photography and videography. Last summer vacation, she had an internship at CCTV in China to learn more about how to be a journalist. She is interested in making vlog to record her life. Also, she is familiar with video editing in FCP and PR. She hopes to be a journalist in the future, but her dream job is film producer.
