Unknown changes to come after protests against white supremacy at the Bloomington Farmers Market

The Bloomington Farmers Market was less packed than usual on Saturday, making the purple shirts of Kate Blake and the other members of the Purple Shirt Brigade stand out as they gathered in the space directly across from the Schrooner Creek Farm stand. This week the protest group donned sashes that read “No Nazis” in place of protest signs.

“We are trying to find a way to follow the rules but also bring attention to the fact that this city is violating free speech basically,” said Blake.

Doug Bauder has been IU LGBTQ+ culture center director for 25 years

Doug Bauder’s office at IU’s LGBTQ+ Culture Center is a warm and inviting sanctuary on Seventh Street across from the Indiana Memorial Union. The walls are speckled with posters about the gay community, and the bookshelf displays pictures and awards that have been collected over two decades as the center’s director.

Before moving to this office 25 years ago, Bauder was a pastor.
