One-dimensional fitness apps elicit different points of view

IU student Jenny Dey is pleased with the new mobile fitness applications that have become popular. The convenient and cost-effective workouts have become motivation for those looking to work out with technology as guidance.

“I think fitness apps are a really good way for people to really have a resource that can motivate them, but also give them more direction on what to do,” the IU student said. “A lot of people will get to the gym and not know what to do with machinery and with their workout, so it gives them a good road map on how to go about it.”

Owner of Hoosier Athletic Club, Shaun Tieman, changes lives

Shaun Tieman grew up mowing and bailing hay around the fields of his 130-acre property south of Bloomington. His work ethic began at a young age when he stepped up to dig holes and install fence lines around his family’s land.

“We also had horses and dogs and cats that we had to take care of,” he said in an email. “So it definitely made me grow up respecting and understanding what it was to take care of your things and work for what you wanted.”

Pushing past insecurities, interviewing strangers

My experience for the Person on the Street interviews went just as I expected it to go. Some individuals were nice about it, and others were not. I felt uncomfortable having to approach individuals who were trying to go through their day, especially when it was cold outside and people do not want to stop and talk.

One individual that I asked was grocery shopping, so I asked her politely to answer four questions. Before I could even get the question out of my mouth, she rudely responded no.
