Safely reopening gyms has improved gym-goers’ mental health

When the pandemic started over a year ago, Monroe County gyms shut down. Gavin Schoenle was stuck without a place to work out. He tried home and virtual workouts, but nothing satisfied his needs like a gym.

“It was tough, because you got so used to your routine,” he said. “I was going to work and then as soon as I got off work, I would go work out. As soon as I heard they were closing all the gyms I was like, “All right what do I do now?””

From health and wellness coach to personal trainer – Mollie Hitchcock’s path to discovering her passion

Health and wellness fascinated Mollie Hitchcock at a young age. She knew she wanted a career in that field but wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. She went to college with hopes of becoming a health and wellness coach, but after getting her first job, she realized it wasn’t for her. She needed a change.

Almost 10 years after graduating from Ivy Tech, Hitchcock had a life-altering realization. She wanted to be a personal trainer. She got on her computer and found what she was looking for. She not only started a new job but she fell in love with a lifelong passion.

Fewer IU students on campus makes getting interviews a challenge for reporter

On the Indiana University campus, there are usually thousands of students walking to class, to the coffee shop, to the auditorium or just out enjoying the weather. With the pandemic, that number has gone way down, with maybe a couple hundred or so on a good day. For a journalist needing students to interview, this is a problem.

When the pandemic began last March, students were sent home for the remainder of the semester. With the majority of classes being online-only this school year, finding interviewees has become increasingly difficult.

Students try to keep sense of normalcy one year into pandemic

IU students have found a way to keep their normal routines almost untouched to keep a sense of normalcy, despite more takeout food and isolation due to the pandemic. Maintaining routines are important, according to three students at Indiana University’s Sample Gates on Feb. 24.

Bio: Stephan Walker

Stephan Walker
Stephan Walker is a senior at Indiana University Bloomington. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Media with a Sports Media concentration and a specialization in Broadcast Journalism. Born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN he has always wanted to go to IU. Walker has been involved in several media outlets during his time on campus. He has previously worked for the Indiana Daily Student as a women’s rowing beat reporter and women’s basketball columnist, and as a wrestling and football beat reporter for Indiana University Student Television. He is currently a broadcaster for Big Ten Student U and an anchor for IUSTV Sports. He’s been on broadcasts for baseball, softball, wrestling, field hockey and swimming and diving. One day he hopes to achieve his dream of being a play-by-play broadcaster for ESPN, Fox or Big Ten Network.
