Chapter 1 Reflection

One of all the beautiful buildings in the city of Oporto. On the signs, it says “Dressing well and cheap is only possible here”. The different colors of the buildings are due to the traditional architecture of the city. Caption: Alba Ramos

One of the aspects taught in this chapter is framing. As it is said, “Depending on the subject and on the treatment the photographer chooses, the edges of the frame can have a strong or weak influence on the image”. The picture I have chosen is shot vertically. This technique works really well for buildings, trees, bottles… As the picture is vertical, the eye goes from top to bottom, which makes the building look taller. Moreover, I have decided to crop the ground and part of the building, so this also gives a greater sense of height. I have also done this because there were more objects below that I felt would detract from the facade of the building, which is what I wanted to be important.

Although the main object in the photo is the facade of the first building, the buildings behind give a sense of depth. The horizontal lines of the balconies and billboards contrast with the vertical lines of the walls of the buildings.
