What surprised me most in this chapter are the different uses of lines. Depending on the lines (horizontal, vertical…) the photograph adopts one dynamic or another. For example, from my point of view, since this can be very subjective, vertical lines give me an impression of height, horizontal lines give me a feeling of tranquility, and little action… and diagonal lines convey movement.
I took this photo in 2018 in a temple in Vietnam. Although the priority lines are diagonal lines, they are intermingled with the horizontal lines in the background. As I mentioned, diagonal lines give a sense of movement. In this case, this is reinforced because the lines are accompanied by the movement of the two girls running up the stairs in the same direction as the flags. The contrast is created by the horizontal lines of the stairs and further back with the fog.
Although it is not mentioned in this chapter, we have seen it in other chapters, but there is also a contrast with the colors. Throughout the photo, the colors are very similar, with the flags that create the diagonals being the only thing that has a color that stands out. This makes them stand out more.
As also mentioned in the chapter, a sense of depth and distance is also created. The closer flags are larger and the separation is better appreciated. On the other hand, as we look further away, the flags appear to be closer together and smaller.
