Tall: The yoga instructor demonstrates a standing stretch which her students emulate. I thought this was an interesting way to depict height without having a comparative structure. Photography by Sarah Parrish

Soggy: The BHSN marching band lines up to get complimentary water after their performance on the 24th. Those uniforms are very hot and all of the students were sweating after a long day of practice and competing. Photography by Sarah Parrish

Lonely: A woman sits on a rock next to the statue of the two people playing. I thought the most poignant part was how her face wasnt visible, and she is shown in the corner looking away from the pair of statues. Photography by Sarah Parrish

This project was hard and stressful, due mostly in part to external factors. I took photos where I could, but between classes, homework and my job it felt like I never had any time to go out and shoot. Most of these photos were taken at the start of this unit, before I had picked up more hours at work. The rest were taken yesterday either during our big interview for another class or right afterwards before my first class of the day. Believe me when I say I had no time.
To an extent that limited me, and I had to reach to justify some things. I can repeat until the day I die that I just wish there was more time in the day, but I have to work with what I have. That being said, I think some of these pictures are really good. I took the time to play with unique crops and things I hadn’t thought of weeks ago when I took these pictures. I especially like the panoramic photo of the BHSN band for the keyword “fast”.
This unit I learned that photography is more than point and shoot. I still have a penchant to focus on portraits of people rather than showing a scene as a whole, but I think I am getting better. I also learned a lot about unique compositions not only from my own work in Workshop 5, but seeing everybody else’s as well. I hope to put these skills to the test in two weeks when I will have far more time than I do now. I still struggle with my eye and seeing compositions in the moment, but that is also something that I can only get better at. I think these photos are a good starting point, and in the future I would love to return to this exercise on my own and really try again.
