I really enjoyed this project and the freedom that came along with it. There was a lot of room to play around with different types of lighting and set ups with the subject and I learned a lot about lighting and different set ups for portraits. The first photo displayed here is my window light photo. I had Jackie positioned so she was slightly facing the window and looking off out of the frame. I think this really captured her sweet personality and had a really warm feeling to the overall photo. I slightly edited this one to have warmer undertones. I think the highlights on her face is where the eye is drawn for this photo and that really matches the vibe I was going for. The second was my close up and we took the photo outside. Originally I was positioned so you could see some of the grass she was laying on the show that we were really outside since she mentioned she liked being outside but I think this makes a much more interesting photo. I wanted her eyes to be the highlight of the photo and since it was a cloudy day out the light we were using was flat so there were not really any shadows to distract from her eyes. I think this photo gives off a really positive vibe and is a very happy picture. My third photo was the strobe light photo. And at first glance this might not look like a strobe light was used much here it actually took quite a while to find the right environment and set up for the right lighting I was looking for. For this photo we went to the basement of Franklin Hall and I added the umbrella to the strobe so the light wasn’t too harsh. I really wanted this photo to have a sort of moody feeling. Jackie mentioned she was artistic so I wanted each photo to capture a different emotion in a way. I really like how the lighting turned out here with the hallway light slightly behind, it looks like that light is shining directly on her while the strobe light is making it bright enough to see her face and create some shadows to fulfill the moody emotion. I adjusted the shutter speed quite a bit for this photo in order to get the right kind of lighting I wanted. But overall I think it turned out great and I learned a lot from the project as a whole. I think one thing I could work on going into the future would be just getting more comfortable trying new things and not sticking to the same set up every time. I tend to try and do the same thing for each photo but this assignment really pushed me to try different kinds of lighting and setups with the subject.
