A big part of this chapter was about using colors and learning how to use contrasting colors correctly. In the chapter they listed a few color combinations that really pop, such as orange, green and purple. There is not any orange in this picture that I took above but I really tried to find situations where these colors would really show up. I think in this image the purple specifically really pops against the dark browns that are showing behind it. A big thing that they talked about was composing with color. And using the colors in the picture to help the overall outcome of the photos. Here obviously there are limited colors but I think it still adds to the photo in many ways because it really emphasizes the key parts of the photos like the shadows that are really important. They also talked about contrast and showed a black and white color scale type of thing with the different contrasting colors. I think my photo has high contrast because the light from the window is really bright and white and for the most part everything around it is dark and in shadow. I was also inspired by the elephant photos in this chapter. The comparison of the colored versus the black and white photos really showed how dramatic a photo can be when simple things like that are adjusted. It really adds to the overall effect of the story that goes along with a single picture. And obviously the black and white section at the end of this chapter really inspired this as well.
