Reading Reflection: Ch. 4

This a photo that was taken in Venice, Italy. It shows a gondola ride heading towards the little bridge. Photo taken by Jamie Conklin.

In the Chapter 4 reading, the author talks about illuminating dark scenes, color intensity, and how color opposites are complimentary to each other, but the one thing that stood out the most to me in this reading, is how to change a colorful photo to a softer and more simple black and white picture. This photo specifically stood out to me once I put it in black and white because the light colored buildings help enhance the gondola ride going under the dark bridge. Also, this texture and form helps you look deeper into the details of the photo. Lastly, I was able to identify the shapes and features of the image because of the black and white contrast, for example, the water’s texture.
