Reading Reflection Chapter 4

Even though it is night, Vietnam’s markets are still lit. This photo shows a stall of lamps, really common in this country, which reminds us of everything this country transmits: the happiness of its people and its wonderful landscapes.

This photograph was taken in Vietnam in 2019. Much of the economy of this country is centered on the markets. These can be of food, animals, decorative elements… This photograph shows a stall of lamps of different colors. All of them are lit, giving great luminosity and color to the photograph. Being at night, these colors contrast with the rest of the photo, which is practically dark. Although there is a lot of darkness in the photo, you can see two people sitting right in front of the stand. Both are workers there and are surrounded by bags, probably containing more lamps.

Despite the darkness, the photo is very colorful. In the background, lights from the windows of a house behind can be seen. In the foreground, the colors are very varied, creating quite a contrast between them. I have learned from this chapter that this high contrast between light and dark is called chiaroscuro.

In my opinion, this photo reflects what Vietnam is. It has a sad history, with many wars, but still, its people are always happy. They are friendly people who will always welcome you with a smile. Also, the colors perfectly represent the landscapes found in this country.
