Reading Response 06

Throughout the chapter that we were to read through, what I took away was that we have to be intentional and thinking through different perspectives for our compositions. The image that I have chosen I definitely do not think it is one of my best images but I think it demonstrates this chapter well with the concept on intent. My intent for the project I was working on was to create different dramatic light versus dark effects onto my friend. I was struggling, however, to get a spotlight, or an interesting light, to shine dramatically onto her face. I think a lot of the photos that I had taken fall short in the dramatic effect I was going for because the light seems very faded out. I found, however, as I was editing my images that turning the photo into a black and white image amplified the contrast with my friend and the bright circles that surrounded her. The chapter talks about intent with your compositions so they are able to persuade the audience, or explain the narrative you are trying to tell best. I came to understand that even though I was dramatically changing my composition to something I did not initially take with my camera it was best for the intent of the dramatized image I was trying to convey.
