Reading Response CH 1

The bamboo trees are shooting upwards high into the sky. This is in Japan, where there is a bamboo forest. Credit: Marley Reback

An important technique from the chapter that stood out to me was the frame shape and the difference in shooting vertically and horizontally and how big of a difference it can make in an image. For this photo, I knew I had to shoot vertically because the bamboo trees are incredibly tall and go up far into the sky. If I were to shoot horizontally, it wouldn’t capture the beauty of this bamboo forest. In addition, I think alignment really stood out to me in chapter 1. I think I did not do a great job with alignment in this particular photo. I think the lines of the trees don’t necessarily match up with the frame. It is kind of on a weird sort of diagonal based on the spot I was standing while taking this picture. To fix this, I would need to reposition myself and make sure the trees line up with part of the frame.
