Reading Response – Chapter 1

A young boy reads in a window. During lockdown kids had to find new ways of entertainment, turning to books could be an escape into another world. Photo taken by Natalie Austin.

For this reading I really liked the understanding of keeping what was essential for an image to convey its message most efficiently. For the image I choose I wanted to focus on the boys’ face and then also on the book he was reading however, I tried to uniquely crop this so the viewers eyes were drawn to the reflection in the window and then upward towards his face. In the text it talked about frame dynamics, one part of the image leading someone’s eyes to another part. This, in a way is what I was trying to accomplish, creating a “circular direction” with the book and the boy’s face and his body leading back down towards the book.
