For this Chapter reading, the author gets into the photography topics of shapes, eye-lines, curves, lines, and different placement points. It reminded me of this photo that I took of a cat when I was traveling over the summer. Although, the image shows the stairs more than anything else, I liked that there is a black cat in the corner of the photo. In the reading, the author talks about the different placements, and in this photo, the cat is my single point. I liked the placement of the cat in this photo because it is clearly there, but it doesn’t take away from the rest going on in the photo. This photo also incorporated horizontal lines (the steps), but it also creates a diagonal line through the frame. This photo is simplistic, but very busy at the same time. I enjoy that the old steps have so much texture to them, but it bothers me a bit because it is almost distracting of the cat, which I wanted to be the single point of the picture. The author talks about how imposing a diagonal structure is a good way to make a simple graphic structure less confusing and to emphasize the tones and structuring of the photo. I think the stairs going diagonal from where I was standing add that feature to the photo. The biggest thing I dislike about this photo is the quality of it. I wish I would’ve had my camera for this day, but one of my favorite things of this image is how small the cat looks in comparison to the stairs, but even more, is the fact that the photo incorporates many features that this chapter talks about.
