Workshop 6

During lab today we got to learn how to use telephoto lenses. It was an incredible experience and broadened each and every one of my classmates and I’s skills as photographers. It was really a unique experience in the way that we were able to see closer than we ever have before, through the lens of our camera, and almost open a window into people’s souls, peeking into their lives through this big giant lenses. I feel like these kind of moments are what make you really understand what photojournalism is and what the purpose of it is. It’s not just about the photography and the aesthetic of things, but it’s really about the people you are capturing and their story that you are trying to tell. Being able to have this incredible opportunity to work with such amazing equipment was really cool and taught me a lot about what to look for in my subjects and how to capture them in their element. I chose to feature multiple of my images from this lab, unedited, because I really wanted to show what I learned in this lab and the different things that I noticed while shooting today, as well as the different subjects I found during the process of this photoshoot and compare the images of them to one another. My favorite subjects were Ashley’s professor, Sheryll (the woman laughing and the woman sitting by the IMU outdoor fireplace) and the mother and child walking together.
