

The biggest challenge I had during this workshop was the lighting. I’ve found the play with layers can create some challenges because of the way light can quickly change in a scene. For my front-focused image, I was able to put Sam in decent light but the layers around her were way too bright since there was such much depth to the front-focused image. It was hard exposing for all of the layers.|
That being said, layers are such an important part of photojournalism. When I’m working with new photojournalists, I always try to emphasis how important context and details are within a shot and layers are the best way I’ve found to get that in. Putting a subject in a larger scene is an easy and quick way for the reader to immediately get the full picture of the story you are covering.
