This project was fun to do, because I went into it ready to experiment with focus and the mural was the perfect “prop” in this situation. Anya was a very photogenic subject and we bounced ideas off each other during the shoot.
The first image shows back focus, with the eye being drawn to the camera on the mural rather than Anya. I like this shot because it show s off the location without being obvious, and it also tells a little bit about Anya, if only due to the fact it’s a camera.
The second image I wish was a little better. I should have gotten a little bit lower to have a better emphasized parallel between Anya’s face and the face on the mural, but I wasn’t thinking about it at the time. This also didn’t lend itself well to captions because we couldn’t see their phone in the shot and the mural isn’t much to talk about.
I also had to crop both photos pretty tightly, because the mural was very busy color-wise. I like how they turned out, but I think if I take photos here in the future I would want the subject to stand further from the mural.
