The Media School Receives New Investigative Journalism Center

The Media School will receive a $6 million grant from alumnus Michael I. Arnolt to build a brand new investigative journalism center.

The center will be equipped with television monitors to stay up-to-date on breaking news, as well as reporter work spaces and monitors for collaboration and Skype interviews. The Media School’s building manager, Dan Brown, says the center will add a nice touch to the already successful school.

“It’s really going to put a nice emphasis on what we can do for not both journalism in general, but also helping to build our broadcast journalism program.”

Advanced journalism students understand the importance of investigative pieces in today’s fast-paced media culture.

“Every news station is trying to get the information out so fast to be the first place to get it out,” says IU senior Sofia Grimsgard. “It’s not necessarily that they’re not fact-checking, but they’re just not going in-depth enough.”

The Michael I. Arnolt Center For Investigative Journalism will be complete by fall, 2019.
