Mold is the latest thing causing concern at Evolve.

Students living at Evolve Bloomington have dealt with everything from noisy construction to unfinished apartments. Now, this week the IDS reported that some students were forced to evacuate after a water leak caused mold to develop. There had been prior concerns about mold but none severe enough that some students had to pack up their clothes, perishables and leave.

Not all student residents were affected by the leak and threat of mold. However, all of the students moving out were affected by the delayed move-in date at the start of the school year. The decision to evacuate was standard, according to the CDC, exposure to mold can cause throat, eye and skin irritation, and lung disease in extreme cases.   

The IDS reported that residents have been given two options: stay at SpringHill Suites and receive $60 dollars a night or find temporary housing, with someone they know, and get $150 a day plus a daily rent credit while the leak is repaired.

This is similar compensation to what Evolve offered students at the start of the school year.

Evolve’s Property Manager Sarah Maxon told the IDS in an email that repairs would be complete in a week, allowing students to move back into their apartments.
