Bloomington city and Monroe county offices may close at 4 in the afternoon but their duty to serve and protect the Bloomington community never does. The Office of the Mayor announced it will begin a new “after hours” ambassador to keep the late-night activities in downtown Bloomington safer.
The new ambassador will patrol Indiana to College Avenue and Kirkwood to 7th street. The new late-night ambassador will be there to call an Uber for drunk students, call Middleway House for sexual assault victims, have a contact from the Bloomington Police Department on speed dial and help in other areas of assistance like overdose, suspicious behavior or minimizing contact between police and the Bloomington community, when necessary.
The trend of “after hours ambassador” or “late night mayor” have been operational in many cities across the country. It will officially make its way to Bloomington in spring of 2019 as the Office of the Mayor begins the hiring process in January.
