As a journalism student and Ernie Pyle Scholar at the Indiana University Media School, I am honing my craft as a skilled writer, reporter, and responsible member of society, with the goal of providing quality and ethical journalism. In addition to my academic pursuits, I bring a strong background in leadership and teamwork from my experience interning with the Marblehead Current, as well as training as a collaborative teammate with the Kappa Alpha Theta Little 500 cycling team. These experiences have developed my skills in communication, a vital aspect in both sports and journalism. To further develop my sense of community, I applied and was accepted into the Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism where I work with a team of reporters in conducting research and producing quality news content.
My college endeavors have stemmed from my time as a devoted high school student athlete, taking on numerous challenges and responsibilities. I took 9 AP classes and led my high school’s cross country, indoor, and outdoor track teams as one of three to five captains. Prior to my athletic pursuits, I trained as a ballet dancer for 10 years with the Boston Ballet School, even attending a summer intensive with the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago. However, I chose to end my ballet career to fully focus on my academic work and be a part of a community greater than just myself. These experiences have molded me into a well-rounded individual who is dedicated to pursuing excellence in both academics and teamwork.
As someone who is passionate about communication, I have come to understand its importance through personal experience. When my dad suffered a stroke in 2020, affecting both his mobility and his speech, I saw firsthand the difficulties of communicating and the impact it can have on a family. This experience has taught me that good communication is not only about speaking, but also about listening. As an emerging journalist, I hope to one day be able to tell my dad’s story and share it with the world. I hope to share the stories of many others as well, providing the voiceless with a voice.
