Witches, robots, superheroes, and lots and lots of candy!

Indiana University’s annual Safe Halloween event was in full force on October 26th, 2022. Providing a safe trick-or-treating experience for the children in Bloomington and peace of mind for the parents, the night is a best-of-both-worlds situation.

IU Organizations, big and small, lined the streets of Eagleson Avenue and David Baker Avenue ready to participate in this beloved community event. Groups from greek life chapters to dance teams listened to Halloween music distributing free treats and smiles.

According to Neighborhood Scout, “The crime rate in Bloomington is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest…” Meaning, although the crime rate is not as high as larger cities, it is high for one of this size. Going door-to-door to stranger’s houses does not appear ideal in these conditions, but the trick-or-treating event is not the only thing to worry about.

A story by the USA Today dives into different dangers that can be discretely inserted into candy including substances like rainbow fentanyl. For those reasons and many more, many of the parents claimed they appreciated regulated events like this more than ever before.
