IU CLUB LACROSSE

The IU Club Men’s Lacrosse team played their last regular season game of the year at Purdue on Saturday, April 13th, where they secured a 8-7 victory and an undefeated season. In Head Coach Brent Balek’s first season with the team, he sets a new standard for the club, conquering their first undefeated season since creation.

Stand out performers from the club this season include a wide-range of talent with not only goal scorers, but goalkeepers as well. Freshman attacker Logan Gels has lived up to the starting role, leading the team’s attack in points and goals scored. Midfielders Grant Hawkins and Stephen Krumsiek have been the heart of the team this season, each averaging 2.5 goals a game and cracking the 30 point mark. But no one player has stood out more than sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Kenny, who currently averages over 11 saves per game.

“Patrick continues to play an instrumental role for us each and every week,” said Indiana coach Brent Balek. “Consistency is the word that comes to mind. He simply always performs at the highest level.”

“Whether it’s a step-down shot or doorstep finish, he has the exceptional ability of tracking the ball and making the save. His energy, toughness and grit provides us an invaluable edge on game day.”

Looking forward to the conference tournament, IU received the number 1 seed in the East, alongside Minnesota in the West. The two top seeds are awarded first round byes, which slates IU to play the winner of Michigan State and Iowa State in the semifinals on Saturday, April 20th, in Rockford, Illinois. Purdue and Illinois face off on the other side of the bracket, with a chance of playing IU in the championship the following Sunday morning.

The winner of the UMLC tournament will receive an automatic qualifying berth to the 2024 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, which will be held at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Texas from May 6-11.
