IU Prioritizes Student Wellness with New Space for Relaxation and Support

IU is taking a significant step forward in addressing student mental health by opening its new Wellness House, a space that provides resources, support, and a sense of community for students struggling with mental health concerns.

Located at 600 N Eagleson Ave, the IU Wellness House will serve as a place for students seeking mental health resources, wellness programming, and peer support. This initiative comes at a critical time as mental health concerns among college students continue to rise nationwide.

According to the American College Health Association , nearly 77% of college students have experienced moderate to severe psychological distress, and more than 40% have reported symptoms of depression. Anxiety remains one of the most common mental health challenges among students, with 63% reporting overwhelming anxiety at some point during their college careers. IU’s new facility aims to address these challenges by offering a space specifically designed for relaxation, mindfulness, and access to mental health professionals.

The Wellness House is home for Student Wellness, Substance Use Intervention Services, and the Collegiate Recovery Community. These programs focus on student well-being by offering support for stress management, substance use recovery, and general wellness education. While the facility does not provide direct counseling or therapy services, it gives spaces for students to unwind, connect with peers, and engage in wellness-oriented activities.

IU Junior Priyanka Israni expressed excitement about the space, highlighting the importance of having a comfortable environment for relaxation and socialization.

In recent years, IU has expanded its mental health resources by increasing the number of counseling staff and offering telehealth therapy options through Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)  . The Wellness House represents an additional investment in student wellness by providing spaces that promote relaxation.

Beyond mental health support, the Wellness House also focuses on incorporating health, nutrition, and social well-being. Students can access wellness education and healthy lifestyle habits workshops that are given to support communities.

IU plans to host events and activities at the Wellness House throughout the semester, encouraging students to utilize the space for personal well-being and community engagement.
