IU Swimming’s Sister Duo

The swimming sister pairing of Noelle and Anna Peplowski has brought great things to IU inside and outside of the pool.

Noelle is a senior at Indiana and Anna is a freshman so they’re only going to compete with each other for one year, but they’re trying to make it the best.

Both of them talk about how they used to not particularly like each other until Noelle was a junior in high school, but being together at Indiana has made them closer.

Noelle, going into her final season at IU, has had a successful career wearing the cream and crimson. She has finished in the top-8 at the NCAA Championships, is a five-time All-American, and a 2020 Olympic Trials Qualifier.

Going into her freshman season, Anna already had multiple accolades from her high school swimming career. She is an Illinois state champion, a school record holder, and is also a 2020 Olympic Trials qualifier like Noelle.

Noelle Peplowksi touches more on how she got into swimming and how she encouraged her sister to take it more seriously.

They’re coming off the Big Ten Championship meet where the Hoosiers finished third overall and both sisters brought medals back to Bloomington.

Noelle won the silver medal in the 200 Breaststroke and also snagged a bronze medal in the 200 Individual Medley.

Anna contributed to the 800 Freestyle Relay securing the silver medal and also had her own individual contributions. She came home with two more silver medals, one in the 200 Freestyle and the other in the 200 Backstroke.

After the meet, the Big Ten passed out awards to swimmers and Anna earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Both of them also made it on the 2022 Second Team All-Big Ten.

Anna Peplowski goes more in-depth on her college experience with her big sister.

The Peplowskis aren’t the only sibling duo that competes in the pool for the Hoosiers. There’s a pair of twins that swim, and another pair of sisters who are divers.

IU swimming head coach Ray Looze talks about how he recruits siblings hard because it helps add to the family aspect of the program.

Looze also touches on the importance of humor on the team, but they also get things done in the pool by being versatile. They both can swim just about any event and with all the injuries on the team this year they’ve had to.

Noelle and Anna are from Germantown Hills, Illinois and they are just two of five siblings who all come to as many meets as possible.

The two women are bright lights within the Indiana swimming program and maybe their siblings will follow in their footsteps.

As far as swimming careers go, the NCAA Championships are up next as the sister duo competes against the best collegiate swimmers in the country.

Ray Looze dives into what makes Noelle and Anna so special both in and out of the pool.
