Jill Behrman was abducted then murdered 18 years ago but her legacy lives on through people who never even knew her. Jill Behrman was riding her bike in May of 2000, like she did everyday. However, that day was different than the others. Behrman never came home. Six years after Behrman disappeared, John Myers II was convicted of her murder and sentenced to 65 years in prison. Jill may be gone, but she’s never been forgotten. Her memory and life lives on through the JB5k color run.
Every year the Student Recreational Sports Center hosts the event for all students and faculty. Participants can run or walk the 3.1 miles. There are stations throughout the course which blast the runners and walkers with bright colors. After the race they had a dance party, a giant color launch and free food was provided.
All the money raised will go to the Jill Behrman Emerging Leader Scholarship. The award gives two 1,000 dollar scholarships to deserving IU students who meet the criteria. The event hoped to color the campus aware and safe while bringing some light to such tragedy.
