Mission for Justice

Cheryl Owsley-Jackson has dedicated her life to fighting for justice for her brother, Cary Owsley.

Eight years ago, Cary Owsley was shot and killed in Columbus, Indiana. His death was ruled a suicide, but there are so many unanswered questions and concerns that his family and specifically his sister Cheryl have until this day, according to True Crime Daily.

“If my whole life, as a journalist is to avenge my brother’s death, I accept,” Cheryl said.

On the day he died, Cary was preparing to move out of his home with his estranged wife, Lisa Owsley. According to Cheryl, Cary’s son Logan was even on the way to help him move out and when he got there, it was already too late.

Cary and Lisa had been fighting before the incident occurred. Owsley-Jackson says there was money involved, and all Cary wanted was his portion of the money and then he was prepared to leave. She says Lisa’s sons, Josh Janes and Dewayne Janes Jr., also had a hand in the matter.

Cheryl Owsley-Jackson says both Josh and Dewayne Jr. would threaten Cary and call him slurs, such as the n-word. They would even take it upon themselves to stay in Lisa and Cary’s home from time to time. One of the men even went as far as pulling a gun on Cary, threatening to shoot him.

The gun that ended Cary’s life belonged to the father of Josh and Dewayne J. Deputy Dewayne Janes Sr.,Lisa’s ex-husband, was at the scene of the incident even though he was off-duty that day.

The question which still lingers to this day is, what actually happened to Cary Owsley?

The media has played a vital role in Cheryl’s mission. She has utilized various platforms, such as Facebook, to spread awareness of her brother’s case.

As Cheryl Owsley-Jackson continues to push her mission of justice, she has realized that media plays a huge role in holding individuals accountable in the world today. She has set up her base on platforms, like Facebook, where she knows she will get interaction and feedback from people.

The Cary Owsley Mission For Justice page is where Cheryl can go share information, updates on the case, real feelings and get responses from those who are in support of her case.

Since the incident occurred, it has not been easy for Cheryl to get recognition of the evidence and information she has compiled on her own. According to Cheryl, as a journalist, she is trained for these types of situations and knows how to execute an investigation. Her journalistic training has given her the ability to see through the veil.

Cary meant the world to Cheryl. She says their bond can never be broken regardless of the circumstances.

As a brother, son, father, and friend,Cary was someone who lit up a room. He was the life of the party, according to Cheryl. She recalls the good memories of him all the time, specifically his laughter.

“There was a lot of laughter in our lives growing up,” Cheryl said. “He couldn’t even get a joke out sometimes without laughing. He was a good-hearted person.”

The love that Cheryl has for her brother is what drives her. She feels that he deserved better, and is going to always fight to keep his name alive and to find justice in his death.
