Midterms are over, the trees are bare and students are ready to head home for Thanksgiving break.
It’s a time to spend with family and friends, and look back at this year’s blessings. IU students took the time to share what they are most thankful for this year.
“I’m most thankful for my family, because being away from them here at school makes me appreciate everything my parents do for me,” says one student.
Others say they are thankful for good grades, and being able to attend Indiana University. They say the relationships they’ve created are ones they will keep forever.
“I am thankful for the community of friends I have made over the past year or so,” says one. “They’ve been really supportive, and it’s something nice. I didn’t always have that before.”
Friendsgiving, a millennial term for a thanksgiving get together with friends, is a popular tradition for college students.
This season is also a time for holiday traditions. “The day after Thanksgiving we go cut down our Christmas tree and all decorate it together.”
“It’s just fellowship with family, and good food,” says a faculty member. “Probably far too much food.”
Although there are a variety of things to be thankful for, a common theme among students is being most thankful for family.
From cutting down Christmas trees, to making leftover turkey dishes, it seems everyone is ready for the week-long break.
