Wonderful Women With Waffles

Indiana University Student Government plans and executes new events, opportunities, and experiences every year for the student body to participate in.

The 2nd annual Wonderful Women With Waffles event took place on March 3rd, in the Frangipani Room at the Indiana Memorial Union. Created and led by IUSG Director of Events Mia Donald, this history class/waffle bar crossover was born to celebrate Women’s History Month.

Wonderful Women With Waffles sets itself apart from other events on campus through it’s collaboration. Multiple different female organizations on campus all came together to help Donald fund and organize this event.

Donald said that the event focuses on impactful women around the globe, but she wants to emphasize the local impact.

“Women are everywhere, and that’s what we really want to focus on today. Especially the women the that paved the way for us here at IUB.”

Each year students wandering the IMU stumble into the event, following the waffle smell, and learn about women who shaped the campus surrounding them. But the event also acts simply as an opportunity for students to meet each other and have meaningful conversations about their history.

The presentation included impactful women dating back to the 1800s like Marie Curie, Susan B. Anthony, and Lucy Stone. Donald told me this was very important to her, as history holds all our identities.

“There is history in everything so it’s important to keep asking questions, being aware, and staying educated on it.”

Wonderful Women With Waffles is expected to continue every March at the IMU.

IUSG Director of Events Mia Donald gives a brief overview of the many different women being celebrated at the event.
