Intro to branded content

By:

The Meredith Foundry is a 30-minute subway ride from Times Square, in lower Manhattan, only a short walk from famous sights such as the 9/11 Memorial, the Brooklyn Bridge and Battery Park.

I had never heard of Meredith before this trip. But the giant screen at the desk of the Meredith building flashed covers of recognizable magazines such as People, Entertainment Weekly and more, which made the company feel familiar.

Meredith is a media conglomerate that owns many magazines, some TV channels and a few radio stations. The Foundry creates branded content for these media outlets.

We heard from several different members of the branded content team, who each gave us advice about the industry and how their career journeys led them to Meredith. Some of that advice included tips for networking and for finding media industry internships.

While I am not personally interested in going into the advertising industry, it was interesting to learn about a whole other aspect of media and to hear stories about the individuals involved in it. I’ll be able to use the advice they gave in my own career to become a stronger individual in the media industry.
