Best places to sit abroad

By:

While taking part in the Summer in London program, all of us have experienced countless fun memories. From traveling to Dublin and Amsterdam to getting off the Tube at random stops and simply exploring, we have lived this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to its fullest.

But when you do so much, it can be exhausting. Sometimes we find ourselves saying, “I’ve never been so hungry” or “me so tired” after spending most of the day on our feet traveling around.

Personally, I often find myself saying, “Let’s find somewhere nice to sit.”

Sitting is truly a lost art. Finding the perfect place to sit can not only be relaxing but give you a chance to truly take in all that is around you.

So, close all those internet tabs with, “Top things to do in *insert location here*” and listen to what I have to say.

Here are the five best places to sit while in Amsterdam, Dublin and London.

1. St. Stephen’s Green — Dublin

My favorite city I have visited on this trip is Dublin, but I was only able to spend one weekend there. After trying to see almost everything on Saturday, Ella, Sofia, Asher and I found ourselves quite exhausted on Sunday.

After finishing some tourist stuff in the morning, we needed to kill time before our flight Sunday night. But we were so tired. So, we found St. Stephen’s Green to sit.

The stunning greenery offers a relaxing feeling along with a beautiful view, and the benches are quite incredible to sit and sing along to “Galway Girl” by Ed Sheeran.

2. Churchill War Rooms — London

I would highly recommend visiting the Churchill War Rooms, but as you make your way through the museum, find the small bench in the back corner.

While there, Sydney, Ella, Sofia, Asher and I decided to sit after walking through the very long tour. If you need something to talk about, I recommend you do what we did.

You should discuss the succession to the British throne and learn who the next powers in Britain are going to be. It’s quite surprising how interesting the topic can be and how long you can sit and build dialogue around it.

God save the queen.

3. Stamford Bridge, West Stand Lower, Block 5, Row 35, Seat 0111 — London

As a giant sports fan, I knew I needed to take it upon myself to visit a soccer (football) match in England. With the Premier League season wrapping up on our first day in England, I was not able to make it to regular season match.

Luckily, Chelsea — the team located closest to our flats — was playing in the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League. Despite the high prices, Dr. Sung-Un Yang and I decided to take advantage of the rare opportunity and make it out for a match.

The atmosphere is impossible to put into words, as the team won in the final round of penalty kicks and eventually went on to win the Europa League finals.

Maybe Dr. Yang and I are good luck. Regardless, it was a fun environment to sit in.

4. Curzon Oxford, Screen 4, Row D, Seat 13 — London

After a nearly two-hour-long tour of Oxford followed up by more walking around the city, Ella and I found ourselves looking to kill a few hours before catching the train.

Luckily for us, we ran into Curzon Oxford, which is a cinema located inside Westgate Oxford (a shopping mall). For less than 10 pounds each, we enjoyed the hilarious comedy “Booksmart.”

But the best part of it all? The seats were all comfortable couches. There is nothing better than capping off a long day of walking with sitting on a comfortable couch and watching a funny movie.

5. ellis Gourmet Burger — Amsterdam

On the Sunday of our trip to Amsterdam, the group had a canal tour planned at 5 p.m. (17:00 for the locals). That left us with a long day to kill time, so Sofia and I walked around a ton and visited places such as the Anne Frank House.

Then came time to sit before making a 30-minute walk to the canal tour meeting point. Sofia and I wanted a seat next to a canal, so we stumbled upon ellis Gourmet Burger, which offered great seating on a bridge laying over a canal.

The American burger was great, and the student discount was even better.

And the seats were so comfortable — but I think you could’ve figured that out by now.
