CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — Apple today unveiled its first wearable device, the Apple Watch, marking a bold new step in personal technology. The Apple Watch combines sleek design with cutting-edge features that allow users to stay connected, monitor their health, and personalize their daily experience, all from their wrist. Seamlessly integrated with the iPhone, the Apple Watch delivers a range of innovations designed to simplify everyday life, offering users a more personal way to interact with technology.

“The Apple Watch is not just with you, it’s on you,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “It allows users to do previously impossible things, such as communicating directly from your wrist, monitoring your health in real-time, and even using Apple Pay to make purchases. It’s a new way to connect with the world around you.”

One of the standout features of the Apple Watch is the Digital Crown, a unique innovation that allows users to interact with the watch’s interface without obstructing the screen. With the Digital Crown, users can zoom, scroll, and select precisely. Apple has also introduced Force Touch, which differentiates between a light tap and a firm press on the display, enabling new ways to interact with apps and navigate the watch’s features.

A custom S1 chip powers the device, designed to ensure seamless performance while maintaining efficiency. The Apple Watch syncs effortlessly with the iPhone, providing users with instant access to notifications, text messages, and phone calls without needing to reach for their phone.

Apple Watch will be available in three distinct models: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition, offering users a wide variety of options to suit their needs and style preferences. The device will be available in two sizes and features interchangeable, customizable bands. Users can also personalize their watch face to display real-time information like weather updates, calendar appointments, and fitness goals.

In addition to its communication and personalization features, the Apple Watch is a powerful health and fitness companion. It includes advanced sensors that track steps, calories burned, and heart rate, providing users with detailed data about their physical activity. The watch’s Activity Rings system encourages users to stand, move, and exercise regularly, helping them achieve their fitness goals.

“We designed Apple Watch to be not only a stylish accessory but also a tool that motivates users to lead healthier lives,” said Cook. “Whether you’re tracking a run, monitoring your heart rate, or simply moving more throughout the day, the Apple Watch makes it easy to stay on top of your health.”

The watch also supports a wide range of workout types, offering tailored feedback to users based on their activity level. It integrates with the Health app on iPhone, providing a holistic view of health data in one place.

The Apple Watch also supports Apple Pay, Apple’s groundbreaking contactless payment system, allowing users to make secure purchases directly from their wrist. With a simple tap, Apple Watch users can pay for groceries, coffee, or any other Apple Pay-compatible services without needing to take out their phone or wallet.

In addition, the watch integrates seamlessly with iOS, providing access to a range of third-party apps developed specifically for the watch. This ecosystem of apps ensures that the Apple Watch will become even more functional over time, as developers create new ways to leverage the device’s capabilities.

“Our vision is to create a product that’s incredibly personal and wearable,” said Tim Cook. “The Apple Watch represents a new dimension in how people use technology in their daily lives. It’s always with you but doesn’t intrude. It’s simple to use yet offers incredible possibilities for developers, users, and the future of technology.”

Available in early 2015, Apple Watch will start at $349. Customers can choose from a variety of styles and materials, including stainless steel, anodized aluminum, and 18-karat gold. With interchangeable bands and customizable watch faces, Apple Watch is as much about personal expression as it is about functionality.
