BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Sept. 9 2014)  Apple Computer, inc., CEO Tim Cook announces the release of Apple’s newest product, the Apple Watch. The new Apple Watch device is Apple’s first step into the wearable technology world, offering customers a new way to interact with their technology.

Apple has become extremely popular amongst customers for all of the products that they have released. Each new technology of theirs brings much excitement to the public as they are one of the most popular providers of technology. From the Mac to the iPod, to the iPhone and iPad, Apple seems to always succeed in their production of their products. The announcement of these products is just as amazing, as they have a high attendance to see what is next for Apple, almost looking like a movie premiere.

Throughout the woman’s busy day at the front desk in Franklin Hall, she uses her Apple watch to keep in touch with her family via iMessage.

The Apple Watch looks and performs like an actual watch, including many more amazing features.  Tim Cooks said “With Apple Watch, we are redefining what a watch can do.” The innovative design of the watch makes it appear sleek but also stylish, with its smooth rounded screen and interchangeable bands with a variety of options to choose from. Apple also made this product perfect for those looking for a wearable fitness tracker. There is a wide variety of fitness and health features including a workout tracker, step counter, and heart rate monitor. And those who choose to wear their Apple Watch to bed will wake up to information on how they slept. Many of these health metrics get measured by what Apple is calling the “rings.” These rings are empty at the start of the day but fill up as users incorporate more fitness and activity throughout their day, encouraging people to “close their rings” each day. Encouraging this activity Tim Cook agreed “We believe this is the future of health and fitness, your health information is right on your wrist.”

This is great to see from Apple as they are primarily providers of technology that makes our lives easy, not more active. But applies pushing the envelope and diving into the world of fitness. Aside from the great health and fitness the Apple Watch provides, there are many other great functions that the watch can perform. Anything on the user’s iPhone can be integrated into the watch.

This young man Logan was on his way to game day and needed Indiana apparel. His Apple Watch made sure he got it in a fast and efficient way via Apple Pay.

Including notifications, camera functionality, Apple Pay, apps, and the ability to receive and make calls. Driving directions from the Apple Maps app will send the directions to the Apple watch, making drivers able to keep their eyes on the road, with only a glance at their wrist to see where they need to go.

These functions can all be accessed with the Apple Watches touch screen, along with its power and manual function button, the digital crown. This digital crown is a push button but also a rotating knob that can be used to select and scroll on the Apple Watch. Charging the watch is also extremely simple, with a magnetic circle charger that magnets the back of the watch. The watch only needs a few hours before it is fully charged and can last up to 18 hours on a single charge. Allowing users to track their entire day of activity and sleep if they choose to wear the watch to bed.

The Apple Watch is made for everyone, being beneficial to people of all different ages and demographics. These many great functions allow there to be something for everyone, just like Apple always has tried to do. “Apple Watch is the most personal device we’ve ever created.” -Tim Cook. Apple has helped bring great innovations and technologies to this world, to ultimately make our lives easier. But Apple still realizes the importance of staying active. This is the best of both worlds for Apple. A great piece of technology that also serves a great fitness benefit.  The Apple Watch is extremely exciting for the company along with its customers, hoping the future of Apple in wearable technology is bright.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014)- The presentation of the first-ever Apple Watch was shown in Cupertino, California by the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, marking Apple’s entry into the smartwatch market.

The presentation included slow-motion videos showcasing the features of the watch, a live demonstration of the watch’s capabilities, along with Tim Cook’s passionate, in-depth discussion of the device.

With the Apple Watch, Apple is stepping into the wearable technology market with the same pioneering spirit that has always defined the company. Tim Cook emphasized the remarkable innovation behind its creation, making the product groundbreaking for the company. “It is the next chapter in Apple’s story,” said Cook. Cook emphasized that each Apple product stems from a breakthrough in user interface. Cook noted that the Apple Watch follows in the footsteps of the iPhone and iPad, and is yet another product that pushes the boundaries of what technology can do for you. “The Apple Watch required the same kind of careful deliberate consideration. What we didn’t do was take the iPhone, shrink the user interface and strap it on your wrist. The display is too small and it would be a terrible customer experience,” said Cook.

This smartwatch will redefine the way we interact with technology, offering a blend of style, functionality, and advanced health tracking, all from your wrist. The Apple Watch combines cutting-edge technology with striking design. It is available in a wide range of finishes, colors, sizes, and customizable bands, catering to all users personal style. Users can choose from shiny aluminum cases, stainless steel, and even luxurious gold options, ensuring that the Apple Watch is not only functional, but a fashion statement that can be worn all day for any occasion.

The device’s interface is a remarkable achievement in user experience, featuring a unique “Digital Crown” that allows users to easily scroll through their notifications, messages, and apps. “Let me give you an example. Here is back to the map. When you turn the digital crown, it zooms in and out. When you have a list, you can scroll through the list and you can do all of this without blocking the screen. And if you’re within an app like the clock app as an example, if you press the digital crown, it returns to the home screen just as you would expect it to,” said Cook. This innovative feature provides an experience that’s both efficient and easy to use.

With the Apple Watch, staying connected has never been easier. Users can receive and respond to notifications directly from their wrist. The watch has both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing users to stay connected without using their phones.

In addition, the Apple Watch includes a wide range of apps, allowing users to customize their experience. The possibilities of things that can be done from a users wrist are endless.

A standout feature of the Apple Watch is its comprehensive health and fitness tracking. The watch is equipped with advanced sensors that monitor heart rate, track physical activity, and provide personalized coaching to help users meet their health and fitness goals. “Apple Watch is going to greatly improve the way we keep track of our activity and change the way we look at fitness. We think it’s going to help a lot of people live a better day and a healthier life,” said Cook. With two remarkable health and fitness applications, users can view their daily movements and receive reminders to stay active. The apple watch promotes a healthier lifestyle.

Additionally, the Apple Watch is designed to work seamlessly with the Health app on iPhone, allowing users to integrate their health analytics in one place. This ensures that users have easy access to their health data. This will enable users to make informed decisions about their health, set realistic fitness goals, and stay motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle.

As Apple looks to the future of the Apple Watch, a key focus will be on collaborating with third-party developers through the newly launched WatchKit. This platform enables developers to create apps designed for the Apple Watch, expanding its functionality and amplifying their experience. “The list of features is a mile-long and I’m certain when developers get their hands on the developer kit, that list will get even longer and there will be things that we couldn’t even imagine in it,” said Cook. WatchKit opens up endless possibilities for customization and functionality, further driving the smartwatch experience to new heights.

The Apple Watch will be available in early 2015, with pricing starting at just $349. “It’s something functional yet incredibly beautiful. It empowers people and enriches their lives. Apple Watch is the most personal device Apple has ever created. We are so excited about the Apple Watch and I hope you are as well,” said Cook.

On September 9th, 2014 Steve Jobs presented to the world the features of a new wearable technology, the Apple Watch. He showcased the sleek design of the home app and the structure of how it works.

At the launch of the first Apple Watch in 2014, Apple modeled the different bands and designs each watch can have to make it your own. This made it personal to each new customer as they introduced a new product.

Apple’s press conference on Tuesday unveils their newest product, the Apple Watch, announced by CEO Tim Cook in Cupertino, California, highlighting the innovative future of the device. Cook, proud of the launch and optimistic about the future of the product and brand, sports the new watch while wearing a casual outfit.

The announcement made at the Flint Center located at De Anza College is explained by Cook as a pivotal moment in influencing customers’ lives and changing their views on such a product. After playing the intro video, Cook steps back onto the stage, arm held high, showing the new, innovative product on his wrist.

The Apple Watch is as precise as can be, matching and being synced to the universal time standard, as well as being customizable, giving users the ability to make the product their own and tailored to their needs and preferences. Along with its precision, it allows users to connect to their devices seamlessly while also doubling as a health and fitness device.

Sophomore Ava Cornette does her homework while listening to music through her Apple Watch. The Apple Watch allows users to play music into their headphones through apps like Spotify and Apple music.

The functionality tools and methods for the device show and express the thoughtfulness behind the product. The digital crown, located on the side of the device, serves as a navigation device for the watch, offering zoom features on applications such as Maps, scrolling on a list, and helping you return to the home screen when exiting out of apps.

The flexible retina display alongside this dial allows the device to have a sleek, sophisticated look, further proving how the Apple Watch combines style and functionality. The variety and range of watch faces, colored bands, textured straps, and types of buckles continues giving users the ability to customize their experience. In addition, there are 3 collections. The traditional Apple Watch is in a polished case, the Apple Watch Sport has an aluminum shell that is stronger while still being light, and finally, the Apple Watch Edition which is made of hard, 18-karat gold.  Touch and force differentiators make the device context-sensitive, and allow for a more positive user experience and increased functionality. All of this is made possible by the new S1 chip and taptic engine that allow for a device this small to have so much use.

The back crystal, responsible for tracking heart rate and fitness-related activities, also connects to the inductive charging powered by MagSafe, which doesn’t require alignment and makes the process easy for users.

Kevin Lynch, Vice President of Apple, made an appearance, giving a live demonstration of the device and its features. This aspect of the presentation presented the various tasks and customizable features the watch has, showing how easy it would be for any user to make this device truly their own. Connection to other devices such as the iPhone and MacBook are also pointed out by Lynch, highlighting how the watch can control certain functions such as playing music from these other products. Quick reply is also an integral feature relating to the ease of use of the watch, giving users a list of potential replies when receiving messages, and the ability to use animated emojis or audio text.

“We’ve also been working to enable third-party developers to extend their apps to Apple Watch,” Lynch points out, expressing this potential due to applications on the iPhone. The partnerships with other businesses, such as Starwood Hotels, giving watch wearers the ability to unlock their hotel door with a tap of their watch, shows their confidence in the watch and the potential it has to better the lives of customers. Other notable connections include Pinterest, American Airlines, and BMW.

Cook dives into what he considers to be one of the most important features of the watch: fitness. “We have two new applications in Apple Watch. First is the fitness app. The fitness app monitors all of your activity and movement throughout the day. And the second is the workout app. The workout app allows you to set specific goals for specific types of workouts like cycling or running,” notes Cook. A comprehensive, in-depth video shows the health impacts and ways the product will allow users to meet their fitness goals. “Apple Watch is designed to help anyone who wears it to lead a healthier life by being more active,” says Jay Blahnik, Director of Fitness, Health Technologies. He points out how this watch and its features are for everyone, from high-level athletes to those just starting their fitness journey.

“Apple Watch required some deep innovation. It’s a precise timepiece with incredible ability to customize. It’s a new, intimate way to communicate directly from your wrist, and it’s a comprehensive health and fitness device. And it is so much more.”

Apple Watch pairs with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5, starting at a cost of $349 in early 2025.

CEO Tim Cook talks about how to charge the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch will lose a lot of battery throughout the day so it’s important to charge it every night.

Vice President Kevin Lynch describes how to access different apps on the Apple Watch. Like the iPhone, the Apple Watch has all of the same apps plus other health tracking apps including heart rate and daily steps.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — On Tuesday, September 9th, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the release of the brand new Apple Watch. The product is the first of its kind and will be available to users later this year. Tim Cook’s introduction of the new product left the audience speechless as they gave him a standing ovation.

Cook was thrilled to share the innovative watch in front of hundreds of Apple users- he could barely hold in his enthusiasm considering his proud laugh and fist pumps. Apple’s new development is very customizable to the user, allowing them to track workouts, quickly communicate from the device, and use third-party apps with their innovative features. The three versions of the watch will allow the customer to choose the perfect fit for them.

A pedestrian uses the Apple Watch to track their workouts. The activity tracker is one of the most notable functions of the new watch and will allow people to record their physical progress.

One of the most prominent facets of the new product is the fitness and workout component. These two features help watch wearers track their workouts in addition to customizing specific personalized goals.  The watch contains sensors that are activated with the movement of the user’s wrist.

During the Apple Watch introduction, a video was shown featuring Jay Blahnik in which he said, “It can track a wider variety of activities because it’s able to collect more types of data. It uses an accelerometer to measure your total body movement. It has a custom sensor that can measure intensity by tracking your heart rate, and it uses the GPS and WiFi in your iPhone to track how far you’ve moved.”  In addition, the watch can measure total burned calories, how long users have stood up, and all physical activity users have completed.  Blahnik then said, “Over time, Apple Watch actually gets to know you the way a good personal trainer would. It’s designed to deliver intelligent reminders to keep you motivated and on track. And it can suggest goals that are personal, realistic, and most importantly, achievable, which gives you a far better chance of succeeding.”  The Apple Watch is both intimate and unique allowing users to use new, innovative software that promotes fitness and a healthy lifestyle like never before.  The watch has several unprecedented features that can benefit watch users day to day life as well as having impressive accuracy and efficient communication.

A student wears her Apple Watch while studying to keep track of time and communicate with peers. Apple Watch users are able to receive and respond to text messages from their watch, allowing them to communicate with people from anywhere at any time.

The watch has multiple attributes that give users the ability to contact others in countless ways in a matter of seconds.  “You can get someone’s attention with a gentle tap.” Tim Cook said, “You can send a quick sketch, or you can even share something as personal as your own heartbeat.”  The Apple Watch is helpful for fast and efficient communication as well as quick interactions on apps.

The watch also notifies users when they receive a notification by making a small vibration that they can feel on their wrist.   The watch contains extra functions that make the device easy to use and navigate considering its small size.  With a multi-purpose crown for zooming and scrolling, a taptic engine with audio and speakers, and infrared LEDs that work alongside the digital crown and engine, the watch can be reactive and responsive for direct and precise transmission.  With these features, watch wearers can call contacts from their watch, send messages, and share emojis and expressions with friends right from their wrist.  The product is unique with ingenious capabilities. “It is so simple and elegant. It’s something only Apple could do.” said Cook.  Users are able to improve their lifestyle and benefit from the watch using methods never seen before.

Lastly, the watch can directly work with third-party apps to enhance the product’s features for users.  With the invention of Watchkit, third-party developers can create additional ways in which users can profit from the product.  During the demonstration of the Apple Watch, examples of third parties that have already worked to develop new features for the watch were shared.  Throughout the demonstration, Kevin Lynch previewed an instance with the GPS app and said “Now, while you’re walking, Apple Watch will give you taptic feedback on each turn. So you’ll know whether it’s time to turn left or to turn right. And those feelings are different for each direction. So you can actually know without even looking at your watch, which way to go. It’s like having this invisible guide with you.”  Lynch further discussed additional apps that were in the process of formatting watch-specific components which include American Airlines, Starwood Hotels, City Mapper, Pinterest, BMW, MLB, Honeywell, Lutron, Nike, and more.  These current brands along with the potential, other developers have to create features using Watchkit, will change the way consumers live.

The customizable and intimate watch is offered in three different styles including the traditional Apple Watch made from stainless steel, the Apple Watch Sport with an aluminum case, and lastly, the Apple Watch Edition made from 18-carat gold.  The three watch designs all can be personalized to best fit the user and their preferences.  The watch is offered with various watch bands that can each be used for different activities, purposes, and styles.  The watch can be purchased starting at only $349 and will be on the market within a year.

Cook is also understood to view the Apple Watch not as simply the initiation of a new product, but as a transformational product platform that Apple will develop over time, similar to the iPhone. Apple will continue to introduce software updates and better hardware based upon what they learn from customer experiences. Apple Watch is an example of that innovation, in terms of collecting relevant information, improving customer experience, communication, personal convenience and health. [CUPERTINO, CA]: Apple CEO Tim Cook unveils new product with unseen technology “Apple Watch”, during an event Tuesday in Cupertino, CA. Cook outlined the details seen in the watch during his presentation, as it is set to be released in a few weeks to the general public. The unveiling came at the end of a showcase by the company highlighting their latest projects. The industry-leading innovation has exceeded expectations from even some of Apple’s critics, as the watch’s revolutionary features.

The watch’s exterior is laminated by a single layer of sapphire, making it durable with a sleek look. The customizable and replaceable bands that come with the watch are also appealing to fans as they bring a sense of personalization to the product. “It is incredibly customizable, so you can find one that reflects your style and taste,” Cook said. There is speculation that even more custom features are still to come.

The first big feature mentioned by Cook was the use of a Digital crown. This feature allows the user to navigate the watch’s interface without blocking the screen with their finger, offering a fluent experience for the user. Cook demonstrated with a map, showing the easy usability of the crown rather than using your fingers as a touch screen.

One of the most functional details that was portrayed during the event was the health and fitness tracking options in the watch. The Apple Watch tracks heart rate, activity levels, and even workouts, as well as setting up daily goals to motivate users to be active with their health. “The Apple Watch gives us the ability to motivate people to be more active and be more healthy,” Cook said. The groundbreaking features in the fitness section of the watch are so advanced that they learn with the user as the user works out with it, and are able to track and share data based on a pulse built on the bottom side of the watch.

Kate Henselmeier on IU’s Track and Field team running on the track, equipped with an Apple Watch. The Apple Watch serves as an excellent fitness companion, offering powerful tracking features such as its signature Activity rings, which help monitor and optimize performance.

Another huge feature outlined by Cook and his team at Apple was the ability to pay exclusively through the watch, through Apple Pay. Apple Pay, as highlighted earlier in the event, is a way to pay through your phone or now watch without having a physical card on you. The watch is able to sync to an apple pay system and allow you to purchase items with only your wrist.

Cook does mention that the Apple Watch requires the use of an iPhone to work. “The Apple Watch does require an iPhone because it’s been designed to seamlessly work together,” Cook said. The iPhones compatible with the watch were announced as the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and the iPhone 5c. The watch is charged through conductive charging through a magnetic charging cable. The watch is set to release at a retail price of 349.99 dollars and will be released in early 2015.

Assistant Track and Field coach, Valerie Brown receiving a call on her Apple Watch while also timing her athletes. This highlights the watch’s versatility, allowing her to seamlessly multitask, staying connected and managing coaching duties simultaneously.

The event concluded with the details on when the watch will be released, but Cook is definitely looking into the future. He mentioned the future of the Apple Watch and described different versions that could/will release in the future such as a sport version and a pro version. The event concluded with a concert from world renowned band “U2”. The Watch’s release is highly anticipated with many already waiting to get their hands on the innovative product. We can expect there to be more details to come out in the near future but the technology and features we have seen are just the beginning. There will definitely be more creative and custom features down the line for those who crave a unique experience. “It’s something functional, yet incredibly beautiful,” Cook said in summary of the product’s design. We look forward to early 2015, where a full retail launch of the product will be released.

Student, Sylvia Sasse, uses her watch to track her fitness and steps. The apple watch is a useful way for an athlete to stay on top of their exercise.

The watch’s structure is very sturdy, being made out of sapphire crystal which is the second strongest transparent element after diamond. The watch is able to identify clicks and presses, each of them having a different effect on what pops up. To charge the device all one has to do is simply connect the charger which automatically will attach. The personalization of the tool varies, the background for the watch is completely customizable. Users can add the time, reminders, moving backgrounds, weather, and when the sun is going to rise or set. The user also has the choice to pick different colors, materials, and textures of their wrist straps. There is a sweatband strap that is made for working out and, according to Jony Ive Apple Senior VP, is “…made from a tough, durable, sweat, and chemical resistant high-performance elastomer”. Each strap has a different function for everyday life, their variation is up to six uniquely styled bands that perform differently from each other. The option of a smaller watch is also available just in case the wrist size does not match the screen size.

The customizable features continue on past the appearance of the watch and goes into how the watch is used. For example, in your messages you can send custom made emoji’s that match whatever text your are replying to. The user also has the option to send drawings or certain beats that alerts the person they are texting. The beats are completely silent and only the wearer can notice them. Another new feature is the fitness and workout app that were added specifically for wearer’s to set workout goals. Within the fitness app you can track your activity throughout the day, whether you are moving, excersizing, or standing still the watch is able to tell you the exact amount of time you spend doing each task. The moving portion of the app shows how many calories you burned which gives an accurate showing of how active you are. The exercising portion shows how much time you were spending exercising, they track this by measuring heartbeat which is managed by the sensors on the back of the watch. The stand portion is put into minutes and shows how much time the person has been sitting. The main purpose of this app is to help keep watch users healthy. In the workout app users can set daily goals they would like to accomplish. With these goals in place the watch can then monitor and keep track to see if those targets are complete. The future of Apple is emphasized by Cook “Apple builds great products that enriches peoples lives and arguably we can take that to a whole new level with Apple Watch”, with these new features the health, comfort, and general needs for a person’s everyday life will be greatly improved.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – Apple today unveiled the newest product for the company. A watch that keeps it convenient and has advanced technology.

Apple CEO Tim Took unveiled the Apple Watch this Tuesday afternoon. The product was presented in Cupertino, California.

Cook confidently demonstrated the item, knowing that it would be special. This was followed by a standing ovation from the whole conference.

Leading up to the unveiling of the Apple Watch, Cook, dressed in a purple, long-sleeve, button-up shirt and jeans, addressed the love that he and the company have in creating meaningful products. “We love to make great products that really enrich people’s lives,” he said. “We love to integrate hardware, software, and services seamlessly. We love to make technology more personal and allow our users to do things that they could never have imagined.”

Cook continues his speech by talking about the process of creating the product. “We’ve been working incredibly hard for a long time on an entirely new product, and we believe this product will redefine what people expect from its category,” he continued. “I am so excited, and I am so proud to share it with you this morning. It is the next chapter in Apple’s story. And here it is.” Cook then led everyone’s attention to the screen, and it was at that moment that the Apple Watch was unveiled to the world for the first time. Moments later, Cook returned to the stage, wearing the first ever Apple Watch that everyone has seen.

What makes this first generation of the Apple Watch so remarkable is all of the technical features that it obtains. It comes with either a stainless steel or space black stainless-steel case. It is featured with sapphire crystal, retina display with force touch, a digital crown, a ceramic back, a speaker and microphone, an ambient light sensor, a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and gyroscope. The Apple Watch is also included with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a battery life of up to 18 hours, water resistance, and watchOS 2. All of these are the accessible features of the product. What is in the box of the Apple Watch includes the product itself, a magnetic charging cable (with a length of 2 m), a USB power adapter (5W), a band (Sport Band includes band that can be configured for either S/M or M/L length), and lastly a quick start guide for additional information on how to operate the product.

The goal of the Apple Watch is to not only satisfy the user, but to also connect with them. After unveiling the product, Cook talks more about it. He then shows the conference video of Jony Ive, Senior VP of Apple, explaining the connection that the product makes with the user. “We’re introducing an unparalleled level of technician innovation combined with a design that connects with the wearer at an intimate level to both embrace individuality and inspire desire,” Ive says. He also goes on to explain the technicalities of the Apple Watch and how to operate them. “The watch senses that you’re raising your wrist and then activates the display,” he continues. “The digital crown is a remarkable input device. It fluidly zooms into apps. It enables nimble precise adjustment and critically, you can use it without obstructing the display… And with digital touch, we’ve developed an entirely new way for you to connect intimately with others. You can get someone’s attention with a gentle tap. You can send a quick sketch, or you can even share something as personal as your heartbeat. These are subtle ways to communicate that technology often inhibits rather than enables.”

Azariah is using her Apple Watch to check the time after her nightly run.

Cook later invites Vice President of Apple Kevin Lynch to the stage to give the first demo of the Apple Watch. Lynch, dressed in a lavender button-up and jeans, presents to the conference how to work the product by touching the screen and accessing the apps. He also shows how to customize certain displays and information on the screen.

Overall, it was a big day for Apple. The unveiling of the Apple Watch was widely praised by the audience, as well as Cook and Lynch for their charisma and showmanship. This was a huge success for the company, which is only the beginning of this marvelous triumph of a product.

CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, unveiled the new Apple Watch at their annual production launch this past Tuesday in Cupertino, California. The presentation included in-depth videos that highlighted the features of the newest smart watch, and they showed off those features in real time with a live demonstration. The Apple Watch is lightweight and wearable, and can be personalized with ease. From the changing of the wristband to the home screen display, it’s an easily customizable piece that can be worn no matter the occasion. “It’s as much about personal technology as it is about style and taste,” said Cook.

The most notable feature of the new Apple Watch is the crown dial. A play off a classic wristwatch, the dial is the main control for the Apple Watch. It allows for easy navigation through apps and acts like the home button for the watch. Pressing down on the dial brings the user back to the “home screen” of the watch, which displays the apps in a customizable, bubble format. The apps can be arranged and reorganized to the Apple Watch user’s liking.

A woman checks her Apple Watch while shopping in Bloomington Indiana. With the new technology of the watch, she doesn’t have to pull out her phone to see who is contacting her.

Another highlight of the new Apple Watch is its health and fitness features. The Fitness and Workout apps allow for the watch to function as a fitness tracker, while also having all the features of an iPhone in one convenient device. The Fitness app tracks all activity throughout the day and displays that data in “rings”. The Move ring tracks calories burned during the day, and closes once the user has reached their personal goal. The Exercise ring tracks any activity that is at or above the intensity of a brisk walk. The standard, globally recommended goal is 30 minutes per day, and it doesn’t need to be all at once for the user to close the ring. The third ring is the Stand ring. This tracks how often the user has stood throughout the day, and a complete ring means they’ve stood for at least one minute per hour. This is designed to help reduce sedentary time by reminding the user to stand up and move if they haven’t already. The goal of the app isn’t to just, “highlight the quantity of movement, but the quality and frequency, as well,” said Cook.

The Workout app can set and track specific goals for different activities. The user can set goals based on time, distance, and intensity, as well as create custom routines that save and can be selected with an easy tap. Running, biking, and other favorite activities are already preset in the app for easy access. During exercise, the watch displays the stats on the watch face that can be easily seen at a glance. Similar to a “raise-to-wake” feature, the Apple Watch turns on when it is turned toward the face of the user. Simply raising the wrist allows the user to see the duration of the workout, as well as the distance and intensity. All activity data is stored in the Fitness app and can also be shared with the Apple Health app on the iPhone.

An IU student opens her laptop while music plays on her Apple Watch. She can control her music directly from her watch rather than switching browsers on her laptop.

The Apple Watch works seamlessly with the iPhone for all features and apps, not just the Apple apps. All apps, including third-party apps, work and display similarly to how they would on the iPhone, and the notifications have action options that are specific to the app. For example, X (Twitter) notifications have the option to like, comment, and retweet right from the Watch. For text messages, users are able to respond with voice text or even drawing out the words on the screen. Phone calls can also be answered directly from the Watch and switched to iPhone with ease.

The Apple Watch is compatible with not just the newest iPhone 6 models, but the iPhone 5 models, as well. It is offered in two different sizes, standard and a smaller model, so that it is accessible and comfortable for all users. To charge the watch, Apple has taken their MagSafe technology and created a simple and sleek charging design. A round, magnetic charger connects to the underside of the watch, where the sensors are, and it easily locks into place.

The Apple Watch combines all the best features of a watch, a cell phone, and a fitness tracker into one innovative device. It starts at $349 and will be available early next year.

Kevin Lynch says this feature allows users to show voice feature for easy use. Allows users to use voice to easily maneuver through Apple Watch.

Tim Cook talks about valuing precision when it comes to the Apple Watch through the zoom feature. Cook says the zoom feature makes for easier use and precise location for maps.
