CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – Tim Cook, on behalf of Apple, announced the new, revolutionary Apple Watch that was shown to seamlessly combine iOS features with life-efficiency upgrades all from the stainless steel, OLED watch screen.

First and foremost, the Apple Watch, which comes in two sizes, 38mm and 42mm, and has six different easily interchangeable watch band options. From leisurely leather and comfort, to sweat-proof silicone, the bands were created to easily fit in for all different lifestyles. Alongside the bands, there were more ways Apple created to personalize the watch. There are a variety of watch faces crafted to fit whatever the user is comfortable with; could be the time, an Apple produced watch face, or individually taken photos. Creating an efficient and usable watch that was aesthetically pleasing as well as highly-functional was a main goal of Apple’s that they seem to have accomplished.

Man holding writing pad on clipboard and pen, writing the times displayed on his Apple Watch stopwatch.
Speedway High School Cross Country coach, Brian Hunteman, records the times from his Apple Watch as his team completes a time-trial. The Apple Watch can be worn with the digital crown facing outwards or inwards to accommadate to the user’s needs.

“We’re using inductive charging. It has a magnet and it aligns perfectly to the back of the watch. It is so simple and elegant, it’s something only Apple could do”, said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. Starting at $349.00, this stainless steel watch was created with advanced technological innovations which incorporated iOS into the watch allowing for it to link to the iPhone.

The Apple Watch can be used for various purposes. With a touch screen, digital crown, and vibrations sent directly to your wrist, the Apple Watch built a seamless route for communication. Continued features from the iPhone such as iMessage, phone calls, and even social media communications have all been proven accessible from the watch and made it more convenient to communicate with people through speaking, typing, or automated responses without having to dig through a bag to unlock and respond from your iPhone. With apps such as digital touch, you can send and receive real-time drawings and even share something as intimate as your heart beat.

“It’s a new innovative, intimate way to communicate directly from your wrist. And it’s a comprehensive health and fitness device, and it is so much more”, Cook said.

With a screen this small, the watch could sense not just touch, but any force on the screen. The electrodes surrounding the screen can differentiate a tap and a press which controls the haptic feedback and vibrations being received from the Taptic engine. This is resulting from the single chip behind the screen which is producing a computer-like functioning watch.

Girl is using her Apple Watch to send a voice text message.
Indiana University student Ella Self uses the voice to text feature on her Apple Watch to send a text message. This feature allows users to quickly send a message without having to touch their phone.

Navigating through the watch, there are apps that come with it such as upgraded health features. The apps all show real-time data monitoring your heart rate, daily steps, and can track workouts. By showing a ring with movement, standing, and exercise times, it encourages people to close the rings and become more active, sending users activity reminders throughout the day.

With continuously developing technology and growing social media platforms, the Apple Watch integrates these applications into notifications. There are customizable vibrations for each app, message, and phone call. With just a quick wrist movement, Apple Watch users can access their Apple Wallet, Siri, the weather, and notification center. Apple incorporated a luxurious and systematic experience into a watch, upgrading one’s quality of life.

Although the watch may not have a camera, there are new camera improving features. The ability to take timer photos from your wrist will greatly improve timed selfies and save time.

Now, on Maps, it is possible to get vibration alerts on your wrist to help direct you. Walking, as well as driving, directions are visible as well to make it easier to navigate the area. “Now while you’re walking, Apple Watch will give you Taptic feedback on each turn, so you’ll know whether it’s time to turn left or to turn right and those feelings are different for each direction so you can actually know without even looking at your watch which way to go, it’s like having this invisible guide with you,” Cook said.

In a year’s time, the Apple Watch will be released to the public projecting a luxurious and life-altering way of living that will boost your exercise, health, and communication styles.

Kevin Lynch, Vice President of Apple, demonstrates how to use the photos app. Lynch also shows how the crown feature is being used.

Cook explains how the Apple Watch is not for a specific type of audience, it is for all. The Apple Watch is very versatile and can be customized.

On Tuesday, September 14, Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the newest product at the annual Apple Event in Cupertino, California.

Apple CEO Tim Cook takes the stage to introduce the Apple Watch. Cook describes the personalization for this product.

Following the anticipated annual Apple event, CEO Tim Cook is seen taking the stage in casual dress and surprises the audience with the announcement of the Apple Watch. With Apple’s newest product, Cook said this was “the most personal device we’ve (Apple) ever created.” The Apple Watch allows consumers to experience a more personal technological experience by creating a fully customizable product. As a smartwatch, the watch will support the consumer as a health and fitness device that can track your steps, workouts, and heartbeats with the device containing a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and gyroscope.

Unlike other smartwatches, the Apple Watch harmoniously syncs with the iPhone to store the same data on the consumer’s wrist, Cook said “Seamlessly combines materials of software and technology” when speaking about the compatibility of both devices. Running on GPS and Wi-Fi from your iPhone, the consumer can answer calls and respond to text messages with a spin of the digital crown on the side of the smartwatch. The retina display includes force touch; a feature that allows the software to differentiate between a tap and a press. Cook said, “This seamlessly combines materials of software and technology,” as a product to have these kinds of advancements for its size. When considering size, the watch will be available in two varying sizes: 38mm and 42 mm, both available in stainless steel, as well as space black stainless steel. Made of sapphire crystal, stainless steel casing, and a ceramic back, the watch is designed to be a durable addition to everyday wear and activities by having a water-resistant design, but not waterproof. With this, the watch will be able to hold up to 18 hours of battery life, to last all day as a functional device and watch.

Additionally, Tim Cook alludes to timekeeping, Cook said “We respected the custom of timekeeping” about the cultural significance and accuracy of the clock on the watch, with the accuracy of the clock being +- 50 milliseconds in timekeeping. A consumer who likes a more traditional watch design can fully customize watch faces based on preference. Including the watch face, 6 different watch bands are available per purchase separately following the release of the Apple Watch Series 1. Bands available cover a wide variety of styles and desires, some providing a more casual appearance such as a sports band (available in multiple colors) for a sweat-resistant option, while other designs, such as the leather loop, follow a more traditional watch band appearance.

Cook has apple watch on at all times in the kitchen, using it to set timers, check the clock, and more.

Mid-way through the Apple Watch announcement, Cook turns the stage over to Apple designer, Kevin Lynch, who displays the Apple Watch to the audience for a live demonstration. Lynch appears in business casual on stage with the Apple watch in hand. He then shows the audience the accessibility of accessing apps, just like an iPhone, but smaller and easily managed by the digital crown on the side of the watch. The demonstration shows the functionality a consumer could find themselves benefiting from in a watch and also highlights the simplistic and human design. For consumers interested in purchasing an Apple watch, the product will standardly come with the Apple watch, magnetic charging cable (2m), USB power adapter (5W), Sport band- configured to small/medium or medium/large, and the quick start guide. The product, like all other Apple products, will also have a wide variety of language, dictation, and Siri languages available for user settings on the watch. Although not yet available, the watch will be able to be purchased on April 24, 2015, for $349 for the 38mm edition, and $399 for the 42mm edition. CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – Apple CEO, unveils the future! Tim Cook, the CEO, unveiled the brand new Apple Watch during the Fall event at the Flint Center in Cupertino, California, showcasing its features and versatility, shocking the audience.

Tim Cook revealed the release of the iPhone 6 and all of its new features, but that is not all he had to showcase. Cook panned the crowd and held up a gesture to announce, “We have one more thing!” The room filled with excitement as he unveiled a trailer for the brand new Apple Watch. “Apple watch is the most personalized device we have ever created,” Cook says. Apple had a plan to make the best watch in the world.

A professor giving a lecture is seen wearing the apple watch as its convenient features help him keep track of time and any important notifications.

This “smartwatch” can be used in tandem with Apple products including the new iPhone to give consumers a cohesive experience. This watch is super precise and is synchronized to a universal standard, meaning that it can automatically set it to a certain time standard. The Apple Watch is super customizable and has multiple colorways to fit whatever style you like. The Apple Watch contains multiple ways to communicate just like the iPhone, meaning you’ll be able to receive calls, send text messages from the compact-ability of a wrist watch. The Apple watch will also be a super precise and super good fitness device, meaning that it will be able to track your steps, and it will also be able to track your heart rate through workouts.

“The Apple watch took fairly deep thinking,” Cook says. This super technological watch has a lot of remarkable innovations to it and one of the main innovations is the User Interface. Cook explains over the years the different types of User interfaces, like the mouse on the mac, the scroll pad on the iPod, your finger on the iPhone, and many more. The Apple Watch has a very unique interface. Not only can you use your finger to scroll, but this watch also consists of what all watches have, and that is a dial, or as it’s called on the Apple Watch, a digital crown. This amazing little piece of the watch allows you to scroll, zoom in and out, and if you press it when on an app, it will allow you to go back to the home screen of the watch. That’s not the only thing that Cook had to share with the crowd…

“The Apple Watch has an amazing and rich design story,” Cook said. As said before, The watch can come in different colors to embrace different kinds of style because Apple wants this unique and stylish watch to be worn on your wrist.

Hard-working student captured wearing the apple watch as she is studying for an upcoming exam.

The design of this watch is nothing that the world has ever seen. The watch not only can sense touch, but can also sense force from the mini electrodes that can sense whether you’re tapping or pressing on the display. This watch is so advanced that not only can they sense what you see but they can also sense what you hear and feel due to the linear actuator that provides haptic feedback to compliment whatever interaction you run into. The infrared and invisible lights on the back of the Apple Watch can sense your pulse. It can also track your daily activity and can set fitness goals and give you rewards for different fitness goals. But the main design of this watch is due to the S1 chip inside of the watch, which is basically a whole computer inside of a tiny chip that fits perfectly inside of the Apple Watch. You personalize this watch whatever way you like.

The Apple watch is a revolutionizing product and it’s something that will change the future of Apple.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, hosted the annual product release conference on Tuesday in Cupertino, CA. He showcased the Apple Watch and how it is a customizable, personal device that enriches connection in the lives of consumers. Cook said the Apple Watch is a “precise, customizable timepiece” designed with consumer experience at the forefront. The goal of this product is to enhance its users’ lives, as well as, provide them with an easy-to-navigate device.

This announcement included more than just one new product. There are three editions of Apple Watches: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. While all three are similar in function, they are made with different exterior materials. Suitable for various lifestyles and budgets, the price point ranges from $349 to $549 for the Classic and Sport, while the Edition is $10,000. The watch also comes with a variety of watch bands such as the sport, classic buckle, and leather link that are available at different prices.

Young man wearing his Apple Watch and working on his car.
Dylan Cinton, a mechanic in Bloomington, uses his Apple Watch while working on his car this weekend. Dylan says the call and text features help him stay easily connected to family and friends at work.

The Apple Watch pairs with the iPhone, and has many capabilities that fit into a small screen. The product also comes in two different sizes, 38 millimeters and 42 millimeters. Included with purchase, customers receive a 2-meter magnetic charging cable, USB power adapter, sport watch band, and quick start guide. This new device is equipped with many features, such as water resistance, an 18-hour battery life, and Force Touch. The last feature allows the watch to tell the difference between a light tap and a harder press so it can react accordingly.

One problem that Apple assessed during the creation of this product was navigation. The developers could not just shrink down the iPhone interface and put it on the watch. Therefore, they built the Digital Crown on the side of the watch for minimal screen blocking. This dial is a staple on most traditional watches, but Apple has more digital uses such as zooming, opening apps, and using Siri.

Emily King, a student at Indiana University, utilizes her Apple Watch to help with homework in her recently remodeled home on Sunday. While studying, her favorite features are Siri and the calculator.

Functionality and customer experience are at the center of the Apple Watch as well as the company’s innovations. The Apple Watch itself can be camouflaged to fit any occasion. There are many different home interface options available; some that are plain with a traditional clock, and others that display an activity interface. This interface shows daily physical activity statistics to help customers reach their fitness goals using the heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and gyroscope. It is even water resistant, so it will not be affected by rain or accidentally getting the device wet.

Storage is yet another necessary aspect of the Apple Watch. With 8 GB of storage, customers can use all of their favorite applications. Those who value music can store up to 2 GB worth of songs while utilizing Bluetooth 4.0 to connect to headphones. The device also offers 75 MB for photos that can double as display backgrounds. If storage ever needs to be freed up, users can always delete apps, photos, and songs that they do not need saved anymore.

Finally, Apple Watch is supported by not only the iPhone 6, but the iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s. With 29 available languages to choose from, this product can be widely used around the world. This product has many features that allow it to adapt to consumers. “We think people are going to love to use the Apple Watch,” Tim Cook said. “It is something functional, yet incredibly beautiful.” Combining customization and wearable technology to enrich lives is why Apple made this device.

Pre-orders for the Apple Watch are available on April 10th, 2015; however, the official release is not until April 24th, 2015.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, explains how the Apple Watch is a product that will seamlessly integrate into the lives of consumers. He believes that this innovative device will redefine the watch category.

Cook discloses that the three Apple Watch editions must be paired with an iPhone. The two devices work together to provide a consistent and simplistic experience.

CUPERTINO, California. (Sep. 9, 2024) – Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the launch of the Apple Watch on Tuesday in Cupertino, California.

The Apple Watch is the first of its kind and pairs with the iPhone and iPad. The release of the watch will allow Apple users to send and receive text messages, make calls, navigate, and receive notifications all from the comfort of their wrists.

“Apple Watch is the most personal device we set out to make,” Tim Cook said during the press release of this device.

In the press release, Tim Cook happily informs audiences of the fresh innovations of the Apple Watch. This new technology will make using Apple products exponentially easier for users.

The new Apple Watch is innovative. The inclusion of the digital crown on the side of the watch allows for users to have easy access without disrupting their view of the screen. The digital crown can be used to scroll, zoom in and out, and return to the home screen of the watch. The button underneath the digital crown can be used for easy access to contacts, making the Apple Watch extremely accessible.

The Apple Watch’s technological advancement is another way in which this device displays the work of Apple. The screen of this device is unique in the sense of its structure, as through innovation it is able to detect the difference between a tap and a press, opening up another world of possibilities.

A prominent feature of this device is its ability to accurately track physical activity. Through the four sapphire lenses on the back of the device, it is able to keep track of users’ pulses. Not only can it track pulse, but it is also able to track movement and activity through the gyroscope and accelerometer. This will allow for users to use the device to monitor their health accurately and easily.

In terms of technological advancement, this watch is also able to provide the user with notifications discreetly. Rather than audible notifications, the watch is able to vibrate on the wrist when receiving notifications, making it only known to the user. These notifications are also customizable to the preferences of the user.

The new Apple Watch makes it extremely convenient for users to respond to messages. Those with the watch are able to utilize the dictation tool to respond to text messages easily from their wrist. They are also able to use the quick board to reply quickly to messages.

This device is extremely accessible to users through the use of siri. Similarly to other Apple devices, siri is able to be used by pressing the digital crown and holding it. This easy access makes this device extremely useful to users.

This watch is also customizable to the user’s preferences. It was intentionally designed with multiple different watch faces to allow for users to have comfort in the appearance of their watch. In addition, users are also able to purchase different wristbands to accompany the watch for further customization.

Glances are another aspect of the watch that makes this watch unique. When on the initial watch face, users are able to have easy access to important information of their choice by scrolling down. This information includes notes, events from their calendar, location, weather, music and more.

In terms of user’s preference, the watch is also available in two different sizes to accommodate the variety of users that will be purchasing the watch.

“Of course, we knew one size wouldn’t fit everyone, so we’ve also developed a much smaller watch with matching smaller straps.”

This device will make daily life easier than ever for Apple users through its quick and easy access to information that would typically be found on one’s phone, which can now be found on their wrist.

In concluding his speech, Tim Cook says, “It is something functional, yet beautiful. It empowers people and enriches their lives.”

The new Apple Watch can be pre-ordered or available for purchase starting September 9, 2024.

He described the accuracy of the watch and discusses how each watch will be customizable from customer to customer. “It’s incredibly customizable, so you can find one that reflects your personal style and taste,” Cook said. He also outlined the importance of connecting with other through the use of the Apple Watch and discussed the watch’s role in tracking health and fitness. Once Cook gave an overview of the watch’s attributes, he took time to explain one of the watch’s main features, which is the digital crown. The digital crown allows for scrolling, zooming in and out, and adjusting the screen without obstructing the view of the face with your fingers. Cook compared this new innovation to other user interfaces Apple has made over the years, such as the mouse for the Mac as well as the touch screen on the iPhone. “We placed extra functionality on a mechanism that’s been on the watch for decades,” Cook said.  After he gave a comprehensive introduction to the product, Cook displayed another video, this time narrated by Apple’s Senior VP of Design, Jony Ive.

The video went more in-depth about the aesthetic aspects of the watch. Ive gave the audience a glimpse into what Apple had in mind when designing the watch. He not only explained the design of the Apple watch, he emphasized the correlation of its design with functionality. “In addition to the digital crown, we’ve had to invent other input technologies designed specifically for a product this small,” Ive said. “So, as well as sensing touch, the display also senses force.” Ive described solutions to obstacles that the design team had to face when making a product much smaller than usual. Another large part of the watch that was kept in mind during the design process was the communication aspect. The watch features easy and quick communication between Apple watch users and others. The video also went into detail about the different types of wrist straps, as well as disclosing that there would be three different collections of the Apple Watch. Not only would they be releasing the line of the Apple Watch itself, but also collections called Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition. Once the second video concluded, Vice President of Apple, Kevin Lynch was called up to give the first live demonstration of the Apple Watch.

Lynch continued to demonstrate the various aspects of the watch. He tested out many applications that are pre downloaded on the watch and are also used on other Apple products such as iMessage, Apple Maps, and Apple Music. Lynch emphasized that when designing the watch, they want to make the applications easily accessible. “Now we thought a lot when we were designing Apple Watch about how to really reveal all of the great ecosystem of applications on this device,” Lynch said. “And we wanted to build in a way that was really easy to find and use.” Lynch went into depth about the Health app and other various fitness aspects that come with the watch. Fitness and health tracking are an important aspect of the new product. When Lynch’s demonstration had concluded, Cook returned to the stage for the last time to introduce two new applications that have been added to the watch, the first being the fitness app and the second being the workout app. Cook explained that these apps were created with leading a healthier lifestyle in mind. He then gave some logistical information about the watch’s price which starts at 349 dollars, and its intended release date, which is set for early 2015. If this isn’t exciting enough, Tim Cook surprised the audience by unveiling Apple’s most groundbreaking product yet: the Apple Watch, marking the company’s bold entry into wearable technology.

“We’ve really gone through enough to call it a day,” Tim Cook joked with the audience before adding, “but we’re not quite finished yet. We have one more thing,” which sent the audience into a rupture of applause and standing ovations. “We’ve been working incredibly hard for a long time on an entirely new product, and we believe this product will redfine what people expect from its category. I am so excited and I am so proud to share it with you this morning,” Cook said, revealing the product as “the next chapter in Apple’s story,” followed by a captivating launch video of the first-ever Apple Watch.

As opposed to the variety of digital watches released before this week, the Apple Watch addresses the limitations that most of these watches face. Gone are the days of buttons so small they require a stylus or the time only appearing when the front button is pressed. Apple has integrated revolutionary technology that has resolved these issues, making the smartwatch more user-friendly than ever.

The brand-new Apple Watch features a sapphire-glass screen for incredible clarity and scratch resistance, with the added benefit of a seamless wraparound look unlike any other smartwatch. In addition to this protective layer of strengthened Ion-X glass, the Watch is stylish, providing users with over 15 different colors of fluoroelastomer bands to choose from. Luckily for those looking to purchase an Apple Watch online, it comes shipped with a Woven Nylon Band in sizes the user can select. No need to worry about making a separate purchase in addition to your new watch.

In addition to the innovation and style of the Apple Watch’s screen and band, the Digital Crown has been introduced as a powerful navigation tool. This revolutionary step allows users to communicate in ways they never could imagine, right from their wrists. It’s now possible to send and receive text messages, answer calls, and send information as personal as your location, sketches, and even your own heartbeat to other Apple Watch users.

Another set of groundbreaking new features are the Health and Fitness components of the new Apple Watch. As Tim Cook explained on stage, the watch comes equipped with powerful fitness-tracking software that pairs with various apps. The built-in Activity app allows users to view their health stats anytime, tracking movement through the ‘move,’ ‘stand,’ and ‘exercise’ categories. A colored ring closes once specific fitness goals are completed, making it easier than ever to keep track of your health.

To take a closer look at the statistics covered by the Activity app, the Apple Watch measures the number of steps taken by the user, as well as their caffeine intake, blood pulse, calories consumed, and heart rate. While all of these metrics are significant, the calorie count stands out as an especially valuable tool for those on a weight-loss journey. By allowing their users to target specific health goals, Apple has not only set a new standard for smartwatches but has also positioned Apple Watch users for success by providing them with motivation right on their wrist.

While Apple has already transformed the smartwatch landscape with these innovations, it’s important that the watch also integrates seamlessly with Apple’s existing technology. With this in mind, Apple unveiled a set of apps from third party developers that carry over from the iPhone to the watch. Highlights include an app by Nike that uses the fitness tracking to let you compete with your friends, and an app that allows you to use your Apple Watch as a room key at select hotels.  With a commitment to continuous improvement and user-centric design, Apple will undoubtedly unveil new advancements that enhance our lives, making technology more integrated than ever.

In the meantime, Tim Cook left us to imagine what’s next regarding the future of the Apple Watch: “The list of features is a mile long. And I’m certain when developers get their hands on the developer kit, that list will get even longer and there will be things that we couldn’t even imagine in it.”

The design is customizable and functional. The band comes in multiple different styles and there is a large variety of wristband sizes, to ensure it fit’s the wrist of any user. Apple has redefined the concept of watches. “You can find one that reflects your style and taste,” said Cook.

The Fitness app featured on the Apple Watch monitors user activity and movement throughout the day. The workout app allows users to set specific goals for exercise like running or cycling, while the watch tracks the user’s heart rate and utilizes GPS to measure distance. The Apple Health and Fitness team designed the watch to help encourage users to live a more active lifestyle for athletes or those simply looking to improve their health. Pairing seamlessly with the iPhone the Apple Watch, allows users to access their notifications, calls, and messages. “I can use dictation to reply to send an audio recording of my voice,” Apple Vice President, Kevin Lynch said. The watch also includes a new selection of animated emojis that Apple created specifically for the Apple Watch. These animated emojis are customizable to send lots of emotion to the watch with minimal work. The watch also makes communication more intimate as users can send each other’s heartbeats on messages. The watch vibrates similar to how a person would tap on one’s wrist to alert the watch user without drawing attention from others.

The Apple Watch also includes Siri allowing users to find quick answers to urgent questions. Lynch exemplified how users could project a question to Siri by asking Siri to show them the movies playing in the local area. After just a few seconds of thinking Siri displayed nearby showings with reviews of the films aligned with the cast and director.

The Apple Watch is an innovative and intimate way to communicate directly from the wrist while serving as a comprehensive health and fitness device. Beyond fitness tracking, it seamlessly integrates with other Apple devices. Cook shared how he uses his to control his Apple TV, while some of his coworkers use it as a viewfinder for their iPhone camera. There are three editions: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. Cook mentioned how this divide is only going to grow more powerful when developers start creating new apps. Starting at $349, the Apple Watch requires an iPhone 5 or newer to unlock its full potential, offering an unprecedented connecting experience unlike ever before. ###
