Cupertino, CA – September 9, 2014 – At a highly anticipated press event, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that there was just one more thing to unveil: the Apple Watch. Cited as the company’s “most personal device ever created,” the new technology is redefining what a smartwatch can do.

The watch is fully customizable with several options for the layout and appearance of the user interface. Cook said, “We thought not only of the function but of the way it looked,” valuing aesthetic and functionality. The Apple Watch has interchangeable bands, allowing any user to switch between colors, fabrics, and patterns for any occasion. The zirconia back of the watch has four sapphire lenses, infrared LEDs, and photo sensors, highlighting Apple’s attention to detail and precision in design.

The watch has a flexible retina display that is laminated to a machined and polished single crystal of sapphire. It is also able to recognize the difference between a tap and a press. During the very first live demonstration of the watch, Kevin Lynch, the vice president of Apple, showed this and many other features of the Apple Watch. One of the new features is that you are now able to share your heartbeat, touch, and doodles with your friends and family on their watches. The watch also has a smart reply feature which allows you to reply to messages quickly and easily.

Not only does the Apple Watch include technological advancements, but its functionality sets it apart from competitors. There are two different band sizes, putting Apple ahead of the market in inclusion efforts. All of the watch bands lock in place, allowing the watch to sit comfortably on your wrist, ensuring that every customer, regardless of wrist size, can enjoy the perfect fit.

The digital crown on the right side of the Apple Watch includes infrared LEDs and photodiodes that translate rotary movement into digital data. It creates the ability to zoom in and out and scroll up and down on the watch interface. The digital crown does not only zoom and scroll; It is also the home button. The button below the digital crown allows you to pull up a list of your contacts. You do not need to press any buttons to get the watch to activate the display though, it can sense when you raise your wrist.

The Apple Watch supports many different apps. There are now fitness and workout apps that allow you to track your workouts and goals. Third-party developers are also able to create apps for the watch. Some of these apps include control of the Apple TV, a walkie-talkie function, and a remote viewfinder for the iPhone camera.

Cook revealed that the cost of the Apple Watch would start at $349 and it would be available in early 2015. Cook said, “It’s so simple and elegant, only something Apple could do.” The Apple Watch has many different customizable features to promote individuality which is something not many companies have done. Cook ended his speech about the watch and said, “We are so excited about the Apple Watch and I hope you are as well,” just before being consumed by the standing ovation from the crowd. With its unparalleled level of customization, cutting-edge technology, and commitment to personal expression, the Apple Watch marks a new chapter in wearable technology.

CUPERTINO, California – Today, CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, announced the release of the very first Apple watch. Cook showed a captivating video of the new watch and its close up features which immediately got the audience engaged with the product.

Cook was dressed in business casual attire, and had a very poised ambience. He showed noticeable passion about the launching, and explained this new product in immense detail. He began by speaking specifically about the dial on the watch, the crown, and how it is the feature that is able to transfer movement into data. As he explained this feature, it was being illustrated for the audience on the screen.

Cook highlighted the fact that the watch is not solely for technology but also is about style and taste. He explained that it can be worn everyday and for all occasions. “We thought not only of the function, but of the way it looked,” Cook said.

Lauren is using her Apple Watch to track her activity while studying at the IMU. She likes the fitness insight it provides.

After emphasizing the design of the watch, Cook played a video for the audience that explained how the product is essentially simplifying an entire computer system to a single chip. The clip also went into detail about the watch’s four lenses, and emphasized the accuracy of the watch’s constant calculations. This informative video also indicated the ability for the watch to provide an explicit picture of one’s daily activity, as well as a variety of faces for the watch to choose from.

After the video, Cook introduced a special member of the team, Kevin Lynch, who led their software effort. Lynch provided the very first demo of the watch for the audience, by using a custom watch as it was being displayed on the screen. Lynch efficiently demonstrated how to use the watch by going through many of its different functions. Lynch was extremely knowledgable on each feature, presenting smoothly and with excitement about the new product.

Mr. Cornwell is grading student’s essays before class in Ballantine Hall. He likes feeling connected while keeping his phone is away.

One of the features Lynch brought attention to was the ability to change specific aspects of the watch face, and he showed some different examples of faces to choose from. Lynch specifically talked about the “astronomy face” which was a cover with a picture of the earth. “It shows you where you are in the Earth,” Lynch said. He then demonstrated that by moving the face, the screen can also fly over to a view of the moon, which excited the audience.

Lynch also went into depth regarding the convenience of viewing notifications on the watch. He explained how the notifications pop up when lifting up the watch, and it even offers prompt responses by  analyzing the text.

The audience was then shown about how the watch has its own emoji options that are fully animated. This allows the user to fully express an emotion along with their reply. It also has quick functionality of Siri so that any question can efficiently be answered when needed.

Lynch also demonstrated how the watch holds all of your photos, and displayed how easily you can view them by panning around the entire camera roll. He also showed the straightforward ability to move around the map screen when needing to obtain directions. There is also the option to search for directions to any location. Instead of needing to look down at the maps, the watch has a specific feeling for each different turn, so one can travel with no difficulty.

One of the last features Lynch talked about, is the digital touch feature. He showed how by simply clicking on someone in your friends list, they can be communicated with through call or text, or even directly notified by a tap from the watch.

Cook wrapped up his presentation by explaining how many different benefits the watch can be used for. He states how whether it’s for fitness, communication, health etc, the watch can be of assistance. He explained how there are an immense amount of features the new product has that he could continue to go in depth about.

“Apple watch is the most personal device Apple has ever created,” Cook said.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — September 9th, 2014, marks the recent release of Apple’s newest product, the Apple Watch. Tim Cook (the chief executive officer of Apple) held this event to provide details on the features of this new product, such as (add specifics), on Sunday night in California. This watch aims to promote aspects previous watches have never had, such as ways to document your health and fitness with this new Apple personal technology. The launch was not only about the latest product itself but rather about how Apple is capable of integrating new technologies into consumers’ daily lives.

The Apple Watch has many customizable and designable features. This product comes in various screen sizes and colors, allowing customers to design their watches to fit their needs. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, describes the watch as “The most personal device we have created.” This can be considered accurate as customers can pick screen sizes, displays, and even the watch’s color. This watch keeps users healthy by providing health metrics connected with the ability to download apps that keep them informed, such as iMessage and different news outlets. The introduction of the Apple Watch further shows Apple’s dedication to promoting health and fitness. The watch is equipped with sensors that can track your heart rate and how many steps you have walked, and it even allows you to set your own personal fitness goals. During the launch event, Kevin Lynch demonstrated the new technology by showing off its features. For example, the running routes. “This is not just a fitness tracker; it’s a health and fitness companion,” he says.

IU Student is relaxing in bed between her classes. Her Apple Watch displays the time, ensuring she is on time for her next class.
Best Buy worker is completing a transaction with a customer. As he taps on the screen, his Apple Watch displays that he is running behind on his daily activity goals.

Tracking fitness goals is not the only thing the Apple Watch can do. With the physical customization ability, the device’s changeable bands and customizable watch faces allow consumers to express their style, allowing the Apple Watch to be worn for various occasions, from workouts to formal events. Jony Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, says, “The Apple Watch is a singular, continuous piece that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.” The watch is available in multiple configurations, including the standard model, the sporty Apple Watch Sport, and the luxury Apple Watch Edition, catering to different consumer preferences. Like the iPhone, the watch runs off an IOS system as well, but more specifically, one created just for the watches called watchOS, which allows the watch to connect with apps that will enable consumers to get messages. Such as text messages and music control, all without needing an iPhone. This level of connectivity, along with its health-focused features, aims to make the Apple Watch a critical tool for modern living.

The Apple Watch’s goal is to integrate into the daily life of consumers, providing us with relevant information at just the click of a button. One could feel the excitement building for the arrival of the Apple Watch, which was not surprising given the company’s track record of successfully introducing ground-breaking goods. With a dedicated app store for the watch and partnerships with developers, Apple intends to establish a healthy ecosystem that enhances the watch’s functionality and user experience. This can be a standard in consumer electronics because of the mix of technology, health tracking, and personalization. Techies were speculating about the watch’s possible market impact as Apple got ready to launch in early 2015. Rivals like Samsung were already on high alert, realizing that Apple’s arrival may drastically alter the wearables market. Industry observers predicted that the Apple Watch would create new design standards and break sales records.

The September 9th, 2014, release of the first Apple Watch was a turning point in wearable technology. With its emphasis on connectivity, fitness, and health, Apple aimed to transform how people used technology daily. That’s exactly what Tim Cook meant when he said, “This is just the beginning of a new chapter.” The Apple Watch indicated a new era in personal technology that many consumers already anticipated, with its “cutting-edge” capabilities, dedication to customization, and clear vision for the future. The watch was more than just a novel device; it significantly changed how technology could improve daily living. —

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) —

This Tuesday, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, announced his company’s latest development, the Apple Watch, which claimed to be the most personalized product in its field.

With standing ovations multiple times throughout the presentation from every seat in the auditorium, the audience showed much interest in the new Apple Watch. Highlighting all the unique and powerful features, “Apple watch helps you live a better day,” Cook says.

Beyond telling time, Cook introduced multiple outstanding features that come with the brand-new Apple watch which will be available for purchase early next year starting at the price of $349. One of the biggest features Cook highlights throughout the presentation is the “digital crown”, which is located on the right side of the watch just like a knob on a regular mechanical watch. This unique detail makes the watch more efficient so when zooming in, zooming out, scrolling up or down, or doing other things this feature can help with not blocking any parts of the screen.

One of the main technologies within the watch includes the health and activity tracking abilities. It has a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and gyroscope which are things you would never expect a watch could do.

The activity ring was then introduced. It can record how many calories you burn, how many minutes of activity you’ve done per day, and how long you stand for, all shown in three rings you want to close by the end of the day to reach your personal goals. If you don’t think you did enough activity for the day or feel bad that you didn’t work out, you can look at your watch and see how much you really did and hopefully feel better about yourself.

Camila, a student at IU talks on Apple Watch.
Camila walks into the library and picks up a call on Apple Watch. She talks to her mother about her day.

It was then shown how Kevin Lynch, an Apple software developer, could send and receive texts right from his wrist. Contacting his friend through full sentences, drawings, and even sending his heartbeat, having the same abilities on his phone just on his wrist.

“We’ve designed a range of watch faces…you can personalize both their appearance and their capability”, said Jony Ive. With Apple releasing six different straps that are tough, durable, and sweat-resistant, your options are limitless with what you want to do while wearing the Apple watch. Apple also created different loops for the watch with a leather buckle, a slim deployment clasp, a magnetic stainless-steel clasp, and a solid metal clasp. While still following Apple’s inclusive brand image, they developed different size watches with different size bands to help personalize the watch for everyone.

The watch has eighteen hours of battery life, meaning you never really need to worry about having to take it off to charge all the time, and it comes with a magnetic charging cable.

Overall, this watch is completely personalized from the look, all the way to how you choose to use it. “It’s a new innovative intimate way to communicate directly from your wrist, and it’s a comprehensive health and fitness device…and it is so much more that we don’t have time to cover this morning”, said Cook.

CUPERTINO, California (September 9, 2014) – Today, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Computer, Inc., announced their newest product, Apple Watch with its innovative and profound design features and details.

Tim Cook revealed the Apple Watch, Apple’s newest product, released on Sunday at a special event held at the Flint Center at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.

IUSTV News Director Ashton Hackman responds to a text message on his Apple Watch. Being able to communicate quickly with his news team is very important.

What differentiates Apple Watch from past products is it creates an entirely new audience and consumer for the company and could open up new doors to future innovations in their technology. This product features groundbreaking interface, profound personalization features, and its momentous operations to enrich everyday lives. “This product and how it functions will redefine what people expect in its category,” Tim Cook said.

Apple Watches deep innovation and precision leads it to be “the most personal device we have ever created,” Cook said. With Apple Watch being entirely customizable in appearance and capability to fit the user’s personality and style, users have  freedom to be creative and showcase their individuality right on their wrists. With the precision and functionalities given by Apple Watch, personalization can go far beyond the small screen. Apple has designed six different straps and a mechanism that makes the straps easily interchangeable. The sport band, the leather loop,  leather maudlin buckle, leather classic buckle, stainless steel link bracelet and the milanese loop. All the bands listed can be used for different occasions, activities, and styles. One size does not fit all, so Apple assured to create a smaller watch with matching smaller straps to guarantee all differences were taken into account.

Young woman using Apple Watch.
Professor Jill Romack checks the time on her Apple Watch. Her watch lets her multitask by checking the time while also responding to emails.

Apple created three distinguished collections of Apple Watch to accomplish a feeling of inclusivity and range to their consumers. The first, Watch, then Watch Sports, and the last collection, Watch Edition.

Pairing seamlessly with the iPhone, Apple Watch enables additional, more progressive, and intimate forms of communication such as sending a sketch to a contact, getting someone’s attention with a light tap on the screen, or users can share their own heartbeat. Those features all align with digital touch communication, a prime goal in the creation of Apple Watch, just by tapping on a contact picture on the screen users can have live communication by drawing or tapping. The watch also showcases features as a comprehensive health and fitness device.

Health is extremely relevant to people of all ages, Apple Watch enhances and reintroduces ways to improve users health and daily activities. The four sensors and sapphire lenses located on the back of the watch detect users pulse rates. New features instilled into the watch along with the pairing of the GPS and Wi-Fi from users’ iPhones, the watch provides an extensive picture of daily activity. Two profound applications have been created with Apple watch, one being the fitness app that monitors all movement and activity throughout the day and the second is the workout app which allows users to set specific goals that are achievable and personal for numerous types of workouts. “Overtime Apple Watch actually gets to know you the way a good personal trainer would. It’s designed to deliver intelligent reminders to keep you motivated and on track.” Apple’s Health and Fitness team said.

The Apple Watch required a revolution of user interface to be set into motion, completely different from iPhones due to its smaller size. After careful consideration and collaboration from Apple, they decided to add a dial on the side of the watch called a digital crown. The dial allows users to navigate and enlarge content on the small screen display. It allows zooming features, precise adjustment, serves as a home button and is used without touching or blocking the screen. Along with the dial, other input technologies accommodate the watch’s size. The watches screen recognizes the difference between a tap and press, providing immediate access to a range of controls. The chip inside the watch is extremely complex and advanced that it compares a miniaturized computer system onto a single chip to essentially enhance and change the way users feel, use, and hear this product.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, revealed the new and innovative Apple Watch early September to a large crowd of enthusiasts at an event in Cupertino, California.

After unveiling the new iPhone 6 and 6 plus, Cook announced Apple’s first device in the smartwatch realm. Just after showing a montage of the square-faced new device, with no explanation on the device given, Cook received a standing ovation. The Apple Watch was enthusiastically presented by Cook, who casually appeared in a purple button down and jeans featuring the new Apple Watch on himself.

This new, precise timepiece took careful deliberate consideration when being created. Each feature is extremely intentional and personal for each person using the device. It is customizable so each person can find one that reflects their own style. You can choose between three collections including Apple Watch, Sport, or edition—each featuring stainless steel, steel 60% stronger than the average steel, or 18k gold. The watches also come in two sizes and have interchangeable wrist bands.

Customize your Apple Watch to complement your unique style and meet your needs with different colors, bands, faces, and complications. Jenna has a unique stack with her watch.

The face of the watch is also customizable with multiple different options. When holding down on the screen, an option to edit what is displayed pops up. The appearance of the watch’s face can be changed to what you want to see when just tapping on the watch or holding it up to your face. For example, the “astronomy” watch face has the option to display an earth, fly to the moon and its phase, or show the positions of planets in our solar system at that time.

The Apple Watch is a major step for the company. Design Chief, Jony Ive, explained certain features of this new device in a voiceover of a visually appealing montage. “I think we are now at a compelling beginning” Ive said. “Designing technology to be worn, to be truly personal.”

Apple paid close attention to making the Apple Watch easily functional. The apps are displayed on the face of the watch. Because of how small the device is, Apple wanted to make sure no one had an issue with their finger blocking their view. The watch features a digital crown, or dial, that acts as a navigator when scrolled and home button when pressed. You can also interact with this device by lightly swiping and tapping at the screen.

Never be late with the convenience of a clock display that appears from the “Wake on Wrist Raise” feature on the Apple Watch.
Here’s an IU student checking the time so they make it to class. Never be late with the convenience of a clock display that appears from the “Wake on Wrist Raise” feature on the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch is a “new innovative, intimate way to communicate directly from your wrist, and it’s a comprehensive health and fitness device” Cook said.  “And, it is so much more.”

Project Leader Kevin Lynch displayed the Apple Watch and showed off many of its key features. The watch notifies you with a vibration or sound by your choice and has many options regarding what you want to reply with. When in need of a quick response, the watch analyzes the text received and comes up a list of responses that align. You can also record an audio message—translate that to text—use customizable emojis, draw a picture, or even respond with an animation of your heartbeat.

The Apple Watch contains activity and workout apps that can help you reach your fitness goals. “We think it’s going to help a lot of people live a better day and a healthier life” Cook said. The activity app helps track activity throughout your day with the goal of helping you sit less and move more. The workout app helps you set specific goals during your workout like the length of your workout, how far you want to run, and how many calories you want to burn.

Starting at $349, the Apple Watch comes with a magnetic charger and requires an iPhone 5c, 5s, 6 or 6 plus. Apple paid close attention to the development of this device to make it the personal device it is. The apps and customizable features make this watch special to Apple. “Apple Watch, the most personal device we’ve created, will redefine what people expect from a watch” Cook said.

Cook describes how the Apple Watch is very diverse from anything that Apple has ever created. The watch itself is very responsive and extremely precise when looking into the world time.

Cook explains why Apple believes the Apple Watch will be something that customers rely on using often throughout their day. Apple has created a brand new charger, exclusively for the Apple Watch, that will be very effective and easy for customers to use.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, unveiled a new product on Tuesday, the Apple Watch, with new features such as, fitness tracking and easy access to texting and calling. The Apple Watch was released as, “one more thing” alongside a new iphone at a convention center located in Cupertino California. The center erupted into an uproar of applause at Cook’s statement revealing the product.

Nobody expected anything more to be released after the unveiling of the iPhone 6, but Apple fans everywhere received a pleasant surprise. Software developer, Kevin Lynch, made an appearance to showcase the watch’s features and highlight the new technology. One of the many highlighted features that Lynch covered was the messaging system and how user-friendly it is. “It lets you send a lot of emotion without interacting very much at all on your watch.” Lynch said. Another functionality Lynch covered was the map functionality, which can zoom in and out by simply using the watch’s crown. Additionally, based on what direction you need to turn after choosing a route, a different vibration will be sent through the system’s haptic feedback that is different for right and left.

Sorority cook shown with an apple watch
Clara Muncie, a cook at Indiana University’s Kappa Delta Sorority, preparing dinner for the members. Muncie, 22, just began her first year working at the house.

Priced at $349, this revolutionary device can read your heart rate, answer phone calls and texts, and has Bluetooth connection. The watch has a battery life of up to 18 hours and is charged on magnetic diodes which can also read your heartbeat.  It comes in sizes of either 38mm or 42mm with a stainless steel finish. With this piece of technology, you can answer phone calls or texts with a device on your wrist.

Apple realized that the typical touch screen on their products wouldn’t work since the screen would be obstructed by the wearer’s hand trying to zoom in and out; they decided to put a spin on a regular watch’s crown and make it into a digital navigation mechanism. If the crown is pressed, the watch will return to its screen. By simply raising or lowering the wearer’s wrist, the device will sense the movement and turn itself on or off. Responding to texts has never been easier; by simply choosing a pre-generated response or speaking into the watch’s microphone, text messages can be responded to by just raising a wrist. The watch band can be easily swapped out for a different one, and the box with the watch contains two watch bands that can fit any size.

Cook truly believed that the Apple Watch was the next major step in Apple’s evolution. The Apple Watch is compatible with iPhones back to the iPhone 5. This device will be available April 24th, 2015, and available for preorder April 10th. They can come in colors such as gray, gold, rose gold, and silver. This watch is also splash resistant, which means minor contact with water will not damage the device.

Additionally, the Apple Watch has a slew of personalization features built into it, like “faces”. Kevin Lynch showcased a space setting, or the “Astronomy Face” for the watch which not only told the time, but gave the current cycle of the moon, and the current position and names for each planet in our solar system. It can also be set to either an analog or digital clock.

The apps on the Apple Watch can be arranged in any way that fit the user’s liking and when rotating the watch’s crown, the screen can zoom in and out, showing more or less apps. The Apple Watch also comes with voice activated commands; for example, Lynch asked the watch what movies were playing in Cupertino. The watch answered with a schedule of movies playing that day.
