CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – Apple today unveiled the newest product for the company. A watch that keeps it convenient and has advanced technology.

Apple CEO Tim Took unveiled the Apple Watch this Tuesday afternoon. The product was presented in Cupertino, California.

Cook confidently demonstrated the item, knowing that it would be special. This was followed by a standing ovation from the whole conference.

Leading up to the unveiling of the Apple Watch, Cook, dressed in a purple, long-sleeve, button-up shirt and jeans, addressed the love that he and the company have in creating meaningful products. “We love to make great products that really enrich people’s lives,” he said. “We love to integrate hardware, software, and services seamlessly. We love to make technology more personal and allow our users to do things that they could never have imagined.”

Cook continues his speech by talking about the process of creating the product. “We’ve been working incredibly hard for a long time on an entirely new product, and we believe this product will redefine what people expect from its category,” he continued. “I am so excited, and I am so proud to share it with you this morning. It is the next chapter in Apple’s story. And here it is.” Cook then led everyone’s attention to the screen, and it was at that moment that the Apple Watch was unveiled to the world for the first time. Moments later, Cook returned to the stage, wearing the first ever Apple Watch that everyone has seen.

What makes this first generation of the Apple Watch so remarkable is all of the technical features that it obtains. It comes with either a stainless steel or space black stainless-steel case. It is featured with sapphire crystal, retina display with force touch, a digital crown, a ceramic back, a speaker and microphone, an ambient light sensor, a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and gyroscope. The Apple Watch is also included with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a battery life of up to 18 hours, water resistance, and watchOS 2. All of these are the accessible features of the product. What is in the box of the Apple Watch includes the product itself, a magnetic charging cable (with a length of 2 m), a USB power adapter (5W), a band (Sport Band includes band that can be configured for either S/M or M/L length), and lastly a quick start guide for additional information on how to operate the product.

The goal of the Apple Watch is to not only satisfy the user, but to also connect with them. After unveiling the product, Cook talks more about it. He then shows the conference video of Jony Ive, Senior VP of Apple, explaining the connection that the product makes with the user. “We’re introducing an unparalleled level of technician innovation combined with a design that connects with the wearer at an intimate level to both embrace individuality and inspire desire,” Ive says. He also goes on to explain the technicalities of the Apple Watch and how to operate them. “The watch senses that you’re raising your wrist and then activates the display,” he continues. “The digital crown is a remarkable input device. It fluidly zooms into apps. It enables nimble precise adjustment and critically, you can use it without obstructing the display… And with digital touch, we’ve developed an entirely new way for you to connect intimately with others. You can get someone’s attention with a gentle tap. You can send a quick sketch, or you can even share something as personal as your heartbeat. These are subtle ways to communicate that technology often inhibits rather than enables.”

Azariah is using her Apple Watch to check the time after her nightly run.

Cook later invites Vice President of Apple Kevin Lynch to the stage to give the first demo of the Apple Watch. Lynch, dressed in a lavender button-up and jeans, presents to the conference how to work the product by touching the screen and accessing the apps. He also shows how to customize certain displays and information on the screen.

John is using his Apple Watch while completing assignments at Wells Library.

Overall, it was a big day for Apple. The unveiling of the Apple Watch was widely praised by the audience, as well as Cook and Lynch for their charisma and showmanship. This was a huge success for the company, which is only the beginning of this marvelous triumph of a product.

Apple Reveals its First Ever Digital Watch

Cupertino, California (Sept. 9, 2014)- Apple CEO, Tim Cook, launched the Apple Watch at the 2014 Spring Forward Event, representing a new era of connectivity and wearable technology.

As previously seen by Apple, they are not quite finished yet and still have “One More Thing”. With constant innovation and creation of new populating digital products, there has been a skyrocketing advancement in the world of technology over the last 13 years. As Cook confidently took the stage Tuesday night, to announce the launch of the Apple Watch, he carried himself with poise in jeans and a navy-blue button up. Slow spoken with a great deal of certainty, Cook convinced his audience of the customizable capabilities and personal experiences this new product would provide.

An IU Professor responds to a students email on Apple’s newest technological advancement, the Apple Watch. This feature provides users with the ability to email others without their phone or computer present.

The well-designed car like promo video and live demo by Kevin Lynch, presented the functionality of this watch. Demonstrating the innovative new features of the Apple watch on his wrist, the crowd was ecstatic to see such intimacy that a device like this could enable.

VP of Apple design, Johhny Ive, narrated the promotional video of the digital watch. He described the singularity and individuality of design, reedifying what it means to wear a watch. Gone are the days in which watches can only tell time, now they could tell your blood pressure, heart rate, and communicate with your friends and family. The level and sheer scale of innovation had not been seen in the industry since the release of the first iPhone. Cook then followed with insightful information on the extra elements of functionality that this watch would provide. With the most important feature being the ‘digital crown’.

Student, Claire Kumar, enthusiastically texts a friend after class. This is possible due to the newest messaging feature programmed on her Apple watch.

The small dial on the side of the watch has magnifying capabilities to zoom in and out, making this product more than just a miniature iPhone. It has a ‘glances’ feature to display quick information as well. Whereas all watches that came before had zero technological applications, the Apple watch combined the timeless elegance of Rolex watches with the new age technological breakthroughs of the 21st.

The idea behind this product was to create more personalization in the digital world. Fortunately, Apple has done just that, and seemingly, through a single chip. By installing a tactic engine into the watch, touch and force senses have been enabled. Your watch will notify you through digital touch communication. The feeling of one’s own heartbeat has never been so easily shared between two people. “For the first time, and with great intention, we’ve designed not only what you see, but also what you hear and feel.” said Johnny Ive.

This new line of technology also appeals to a wide variety of people, with a total of three different Apple Watch models: the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport, and the Apple Watch Edition. In addition to the three different watch models, there are an array of customizable bands as well. Each focusing on either quality, comfort, fashion, or most importantly, fitness. As explained in his speech, “The Apple Watch will help a lot of people live a better day and a healthier life.” said Cook. Counting your steps, accomplishing your activity goals, and keeping up with your heart rate, are just a few features that this device will provide.

Finally, Cook revealed the cost and release date of this exciting new product. With prices starting at $349, these striking digital watches will officially launch early 2015. These exciting new features will have Apple lovers all over this product. As this event concluded, the audience reveled in excitement. As Cook happily thanked all those who made the apple watch possible, he proudly waved goodbye to his audience, leaving them with an amazing hands-on experience unlike anything they have ever seen before. Or rather, “A new innovative, intimate way to communicate directly from your wrist.” said Cook.

CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, unveiled the new Apple Watch at their annual production launch this past Tuesday in Cupertino, California. The presentation included in-depth videos that highlighted the features of the newest smart watch, and they showed off those features in real time with a live demonstration. The Apple Watch is lightweight and wearable, and can be personalized with ease. From the changing of the wristband to the home screen display, it’s an easily customizable piece that can be worn no matter the occasion. “It’s as much about personal technology as it is about style and taste,” said Cook.

The most notable feature of the new Apple Watch is the crown dial. A play off a classic wristwatch, the dial is the main control for the Apple Watch. It allows for easy navigation through apps and acts like the home button for the watch. Pressing down on the dial brings the user back to the “home screen” of the watch, which displays the apps in a customizable, bubble format. The apps can be arranged and reorganized to the Apple Watch user’s liking.

A woman checks her Apple Watch while shopping in Bloomington Indiana. With the new technology of the watch, she doesn’t have to pull out her phone to see who is contacting her.

Another highlight of the new Apple Watch is its health and fitness features. The Fitness and Workout apps allow for the watch to function as a fitness tracker, while also having all the features of an iPhone in one convenient device. The Fitness app tracks all activity throughout the day and displays that data in “rings”. The Move ring tracks calories burned during the day, and closes once the user has reached their personal goal. The Exercise ring tracks any activity that is at or above the intensity of a brisk walk. The standard, globally recommended goal is 30 minutes per day, and it doesn’t need to be all at once for the user to close the ring. The third ring is the Stand ring. This tracks how often the user has stood throughout the day, and a complete ring means they’ve stood for at least one minute per hour. This is designed to help reduce sedentary time by reminding the user to stand up and move if they haven’t already. The goal of the app isn’t to just, “highlight the quantity of movement, but the quality and frequency, as well,” said Cook.

The Workout app can set and track specific goals for different activities. The user can set goals based on time, distance, and intensity, as well as create custom routines that save and can be selected with an easy tap. Running, biking, and other favorite activities are already preset in the app for easy access. During exercise, the watch displays the stats on the watch face that can be easily seen at a glance. Similar to a “raise-to-wake” feature, the Apple Watch turns on when it is turned toward the face of the user. Simply raising the wrist allows the user to see the duration of the workout, as well as the distance and intensity. All activity data is stored in the Fitness app and can also be shared with the Apple Health app on the iPhone.

An IU student opens her laptop while music plays on her Apple Watch. She can control her music directly from her watch rather than switching browsers on her laptop.

The Apple Watch works seamlessly with the iPhone for all features and apps, not just the Apple apps. All apps, including third-party apps, work and display similarly to how they would on the iPhone, and the notifications have action options that are specific to the app. For example, X (Twitter) notifications have the option to like, comment, and retweet right from the Watch. For text messages, users are able to respond with voice text or even drawing out the words on the screen. Phone calls can also be answered directly from the Watch and switched to iPhone with ease.

The Apple Watch is compatible with not just the newest iPhone 6 models, but the iPhone 5 models, as well. It is offered in two different sizes, standard and a smaller model, so that it is accessible and comfortable for all users. To charge the watch, Apple has taken their MagSafe technology and created a simple and sleek charging design. A round, magnetic charger connects to the underside of the watch, where the sensors are, and it easily locks into place.

The Apple Watch combines all the best features of a watch, a cell phone, and a fitness tracker into one innovative device. It starts at $349 and will be available early next year.

Kevin Lynch says this feature allows users to show voice feature for easy use. Allows users to use voice to easily maneuver through Apple Watch.

Tim Cook talks about valuing precision when it comes to the Apple Watch through the zoom feature. Cook says the zoom feature makes for easier use and precise location for maps.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, released Apple’s newest product, the Apple Watch. The release of the Apple Watch will include features for all users such as designable interfaces, intimate ways to connect and communicate, and a health and fitness companion to wear on your wrist.

Apple will release three different models of the watch including the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. The three designs include features for all users. The Apple Watch is the most simplistic of all models, made for people who want to use the watch for everyday activities. The Apple Watch Sport targets customers who use their watches for athletic and fitness purposes. The Apple Watch Edition is for customers who want a watch case that is crafted from 18-karat gold, developed to be twice as hard as standard gold.

Indiana University Faculty member enjoys a meal at Yogis Sports Bar and Grill using his apple watch. “My wife gave me my first apple watch on fathers day and it hasn’t left my sight since”, he said.

“It’s as much about personal technology as it is style and taste,” Cook said.

The Apple Watch development team wanted to design an interface never seen before. In order to create the best user experience they played around with different sizes and models that customers would benefit most from. Certain features on the iPhone would never work on a smaller interface such as a feature like inch to zoom.

“The Apple Watch required the same kind of careful, deliberate consideration. What we didn’t do, was take the iPhone and shrink the user interface, and strap it on your wrist. The display is too small and it would be a terrible customer experience.” Cook said.

Apple revealing the new Apple Watch’s user friendly digital crown for all watch needs.

The Apple Watch team put a great amount of effort into personalizing their watches. Apple Watch is as much about personal style as it is about functionality and Apple knows that. Apple thought of more than just function, but the way that the watch looked on its customers and how it would be worn. Apple has thought of challenges that will arise due to a smaller interface. However, with challenges that occur, they have thought of all solutions to make their product as easy to use as possible.

“We’ve designed a range of products so personal, you don’t put them on your desk or in your pocket. You wear them on your wrist.” Jony Ive, Senior Vice President of Design said. “We have developed a whole new interface, specific to the challenges associated with a product this small.”

Digital Touch is a feature that Apple has included in their Apple Watches. The feature allows for two people in different places to send pulses to each other whether that be shapes and words or their heartbeat in real time.

“With digital touch, we’ve developed an entire new way to connect intimately with others. You can get someone’s attention, with a gentle tap. You can send a quick sketch. Or you can even share something as personal as your own heartbeat.” Cook said.

The Apple Watch uses magsafe technology and infrared technology to charge. Unlike the iPhone, the Apple Watch charger is magnetic and will automatically attach to the watch when in proximity. The Apple Watch uses magsafe technology in order to prevent misalignment making it the most effective way to charge the watch.

“The back crystal also houses a unique charging solution, that combines our magsafe technology with inductive charging, completely sealed, it requires no alignment or exposed contact.”

Indiana University student uses her Apple Watch to study at the Starbucks on Kirkwood Avenue.

Apple spent a great amount of time creating watch faces that all customers could enjoy. After wearing something all day everyday, Apple knew that users would want something they liked all aspects of, especially design wise. Users are able to customize both appearance and capabilities. They are able to decide which features they want on their watch face such as time of day, weather, activities, or notifications. Apple Watch with six different straps, has a mechanism that makes the straps easily removable and replaceable. Apple has made multiple bands in order to appeal to all customers’ wants and needs based on their daily activity.

“The sport band, in a range of bold colors, is made from a tough, durable, sweat and chemical resistant high performance elastomer. The leather loop comes in a soft quilted leather that conceals magnets for fastening and adjustment.” Cook said.

Apple has always been a company that has appealed to its customers exact wants and needs in the technological world. Apple is a company that allows users to customize their products down to their uses and intentions for the product.

“Creating beautiful objects that are as simple and pure as they are functional, well that’s always been our goal at Apple.” Cook said.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — At today’s launch event, Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the Apple Watch, the newest smartwatch on the market with a sleek design and endless personalization opportunities.

Apple introduced its new smartwatch at the annual launch event in Cupertino, California. Leading up to the reveal of the Apple Watch, Tim Cook built anticipation by first introducing new features like Apple Pay and the iPhone 6, showcasing their innovative ideas to enhance user experience. After highlighting these significant products, Cook stated Apple’s launch phrase, “…we have one more thing…” This moment signaled Apple revealing their most recent development and created anticipation in the crowd. “We love to make great products that enrich people’s lives, and we love to integrate hardware, software and surfaces seamlessly,” the CEO said connecting with Apple consumers. After the Apple Watch’s slow introduction video, the audience gave nothing but love to Cook and a standing ovation.

Many consumers were visibly impressed by the innovative features highlighted and seamless integration with the iPhone. The anticipation built by Cook’s statement, “We have one more thing,” increased the excitement, marking the Apple Watch as a significant development in wearable technology. The positive reaction emphasized the product’s potential to reshape consumer expectations. “We believe this product will redefine what people expect from its category… It is the next chapter in Apple’s story,” Cook said.  His marketing for the Apple Watch holds a exciting entry into the smartwatch market for Apple, seeing it as a efficient innovation that combined technology, health, and fashion.

One of Apple’s most unique innovations was the User Interface; a new version of the user interface was required when developing the new product. Cook states the importance of incorporating functionality in a mechanism on the Apple Watch called the Digital Crown. This function provides a way to scroll, zoom, and navigate without touching the screen. It also serves as the Home button and a way to access Siri. A new form of communication with Digital Touch has been released. This feature allows users to communicate with each other through taps, drawings, and more—something that has never been done before!

Apple developed an original size and a smaller version with different bands or cases options adjusting to their consumer’s needs. They created distinct collections of Apple Watch: The first Apple Watch polished stainless steel | Apple Watch Sport: The sports collection has an iron exchange coverglass and an anodized aluminum case 60% stronger than the standard (first edition) | Apple Watch Edition: Made from 18-karat gold made up to be twice as hard as standard gold. The Retina Display function features force touch, distinguishing between a tap and a press. The IOS-based interface user interface was explicitly created for the smaller smartwatch. The smartwatch offers customizable watch faces from classic designs to user photos, ensuring the watch is set to change how we stay connected and express our style.

“The Apple watch is made to be worn, and it can be worn all day for any occasion. It’s much more about personal technology than style and taste. It seamlessly combines materials, software, and technology.” Cook stated, emphasizing the personalization of a smartwatch. The watch offers a fitness app that monitors all your activity, heart rate, and movement throughout the day and a workout app that allows you to set specific goals for the type of exercise. The smartwatch empowers users to take control of their health and stay in touch without using their phones. Apple also worked hands-on with developers to access third-party notifications. “We love to make technology more personal and allow our users to do things they could never imagine,” Cook said.

Woman wearing Apple Watch while teaching Russian class
Russian instructor Natasha Rubanova teaches her Russian class at Indiana University about spelling. Natasha used her personalized Apple Watch to check notifications from other devices, and proceeded to teach.

The 2014 release of the Apple Watch increased consumer awareness of wearable technologies and features within smartwatches, revolutionizing the smartwatch market. Apple turned its attention away from the watch’s design appeal and toward its fitness and health capabilities. The workout and fitness functions of the Apple Watch drew in new customers. Two hundred million consumers could utilize the Apple Watch since Apple made it compatible with the iPhone 5 through 6 during the development process. It is designed to be simple to charge at night. It includes an inductive charging magnet connecting seamlessly to the watch’s back.

The Apple Watch took years to develop and has continued to improve. “Creating beautiful objects that are simple and pure as functional has always been our goal at Apple. We designed the Apple Watch as a whole range of products… I think we’re now at a compelling beginning designing technology to be worn and truly personal,” Apple stated. Apple is known for producing innovative products, and the Apple Watch is yet another successful example of that.

Visual features of the new watch were shown in this video from the event.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – CEO Tim Cook announced the groundbreaking release of the Apple Watch Series 1 on Tuesday, September 9th at the Apple “Wish We Could Say More” event in Cupertino, California. The event focused on the release of the Apple Watch Series 1 and the iPhone 7. The Apple Watch comes in 4 different sophisticated colors, three different editions and two different sizes. With the Apple Watch, you are able to reply to texts, call contacts, listen to music, and more. “We set out to make the best watch in the world.” Tim Cook said while introducing the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch is touch screen based and features a digital “crown” on the side to help users navigate the watch, allowing users to go to the home screen and zoom in and out.

Middle-Aged Woman uses the Apple Watch
Amanda Mason (nurse) calls a patient on her apple watch. She was trying to schedule a time for her frequent patient to come into the VA for surgery.

After showing an introductory video, Cook introduced Kevin Lynch, the vice president of Apple, to highlight some of the watch’s impressive features. Lynch showed that when you get a notification on your iPhone, the notification pops up on your Apple Watch.  Your apple watch will notify you through the sensors located on the back of the Apple Watch, and you will feel a tapping sensation. When you get a notification, the watch will give you suggested replies or options for what to do with the notification. You’re able to customize these notifications and the options for what to do with these notifications with the app WatchKit. Third party apps are supported on the Apple Watch, and WatchKit allows you to customize what options you want to use when replying to the notifications. When it comes to receiving a text, you are able to send a text back, an audio recording of your voice, your heart rate or a selection of animated emojis. The audio recording feature shows that there is a microphone inside of the Apple Watch that also allows you to use Siri. You can ask Siri to search for different things like movies nearby or to show you your photo album. Cook then came back on stage to present the incredible health and fitness feature. With the health and fitness feature, you are able to get an idea of what your daily activity has been. You can set different activity goals for the day, called “move” goals, in the workout app and start a workout to track your heart rate and how many calories you’ve burnt while exercising. In the activity app, you are able to see how many hours you’ve stood for the day and how far you’ve come in your move and exercise goal. Apple suggests a specific move and exercise goal for the day, however you can customize these to what you think you can achieve during the day. The move goal tracks how many active calories you’ve burned in the day through the sensors on the back of the watch.

Student uses the Apple Watch
Cooper Haughawout, a student at Indiana University, receives a reminder to start homework before it is due later that night. He set the reminder on his new watch so that he would see the notification right away, as he was away from his phone and wouldn’t see it in a timely manner without the watch.

You are able to personalize your watch’s “face”, also known as the lock screen, with different screensavers by holding down on the screen. The screensavers can include features like how far you’ve gotten in your fitness goals for the day, the weather outside, and upcoming calendar events. Another feature of the watch is the ability to swipe up on the screen to control different customizable features of the Apple Watch. For example, you can swipe up to be able to see and change what music you are playing on your phone, or see exactly where you are on the map. The map feature is another groundbreaking feature of the watch, allowing users to look for places around you and get directions to where you need to go.

Cook noted that the watch comes in a series of four colors including Silver Aluminum, Space Gray Aluminum, Rose Gold Aluminum and Gold Aluminum. Apple created three different editions of the Apple Watch Series 1: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition. The screen’s are laminated and polished from sapphire, making the screen difficult to shatter. The charger for the Apple Watch magnetically attaches to the back of the Apple Watch.  The price of the Apple Watch starts at $349 and will be available in 2015. “The list of features is a mile long.” Cook said during the conclusion of the event. “It empowers people and enriches their lives.”

CEO of Apple unveiled its newest product on Tuesday at their yearly keynote event in Cupertino—an innovative smart watch entitled the Apple Watch.

At the event in Cupertino, Apple CEO Tim Cook took to stage to introduce the cutting-edge watch for the first time.  Near the end of the presentation, Cook quickly surprises Apple fanatics with another extension to the Apple repertoire in addition to Apple Pay and iPhone 6 introduced earlier in the keynote.

“We have one more thing,” Cook said.

A futuristic video played showcasing close details of the innovative interface, clasp, screensavers, and bands that highlight the unique customizability of the Apple Watch. After the video finishes, a bright Apple Watch logo appears on the screen as Cook pumps his fists in the air after receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.

Senior Vice President of Design Jony Ive narrated a highlight video displaying the user-friendly aspects of the new watch.

“We’re introducing an unparalleled level of technical innovation combined with a design that connects with the wearer at an intimate level to both embrace individuality and inspire desire,” Ive said.

Through the sleek digital crown on the side of the watch, users can fluidly zoom, precisely adjust, and navigate to the home screen all through one button. The watch also features a custom design chip built into the bottom side of the watch that acts as a “miniature computer,” Ive said. To charge the watch, simply place is on the magnetic charger, and it will align itself to charge seamlessly.

This is the most personal and intimate device that Apple has ever created. In the variety of watch faces, straps, and collections, the user can seamlessly find a design that matches their personal needs and values. There are three distinct collections: the watch, sport, and edition that are each made of different metals that users can choose from to optimize their experience.

“We designed Apple Watch as a whole range of products enabling millions of unique designs, unparalleled personalization both in appearance and capability,” the Senior VP said.

The Apple Watch has six different straps that are easily interchangeable: the sport band—a tough, durable, sweat and chemical resistant band used for working out and daily wear, leather—a sleek and clean sports context leather designed for ultimate comfort that closes with a metal clasp, and stainless steel—created using a stainless-steel mesh for security. In addition to these styles, Apple also released a smaller version of the watch with identical bands.

Kevin Lynch, VP of Apple is introduced to demonstrate the cutting-edge customizable qualities of the new watch. Lynch spotlights new features such as glances—allowing the user to see quick views of both built in and third-party apps—and digital touch—the ability to communicate with contacts by drawing certain objects, tapping the screen, or sharing your heartbeat.

“These are subtle ways to communicate that technology often inhibits rather than enables,” Ive said.

Using new systems created by Apple such as Watchkit and Quick Board, users have access to interactive notifications and quick autoreplies created by Apple through words, emojis, or even dictation.

Cook also emphasized the importance of the fitness and health aspects in the Apple Watch. In the new Fitness app, users can monitor their activity every day and receive push notifications based on their personal health goals. In the workout app, users gain access to interactive workouts from running to hiking to strength training and can set goals based on how long they want to work out, how many calories they’ve burned, or distance traveled.

“If you’re just someone who wants to be a bit more active, or maybe you just want to track what you’re doing during the day, or perhaps you exercise regularly, or even if you are a very serious athlete, Apple Watch helps you live a better day,” Cook said.

There are custom sensors embedded into the bottom of the watch to measure standing, moving, and workout goals. Users can see their workout summaries and earn awards for their achievements. This data is shared with the health app to continue personalizing the user experience and set realistic and achievable goals.

“Over time, Apple watch actually gets to know you the way a good personal trainer would,” the CEO said.

Third party developers are going to keep gaining access and finding new ways to use the watch in their own businesses. Companies like American Airlines and Starwood Hotels have already integrated this technology to be able to check into your flight or hotel room and Apple is confident that many more corporations will take advantage of this device.

The Apple Watch is compatible with iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 5s, 5c, and 5, meaning over 200 million users already can use the new device. It is set to release in early 2015 and prices start at $349.

“We think people are going to love to use Apple Watch. They’re going to love to wear it. It’s something functional yet incredibly beautiful. It empowers people and enriches their lives,” Cook said.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — Apple CEO announced the release of the company’s new product, the Apple Watch, at the Macworld Expo in Cupertino on Tuesday. The watch is the company’s take on standard watches and wrist-technology. With many customizable features, the new product brings the iPhone to your wrist.

With an emphasis on seamless improvements, Tim Cook calls this “The next chapter in Apple’s story.” The watch contains new-age technology that allows it to be a top-of-the-line fitness device, with an ability to track things such as heart rate and distance traveled, among others. This new technology allows a more intimate connection to others as well, with new features such as being able to tap the screen and send a vibration, send quick drawings, and even share your own heartbeat with other Apple Watch users.

On a typical watch you’d find a dial on the side to adjust the time. Apple took it a step further. The digital crown is not only used for adjusting the time, but it is also a multi-use home button and scroll wheel, and also a quick way to talk to Siri, allowing users to navigate their Apple Watch with ease.

Apple designed a new way of using force to navigate a touch screen, with sensors able to detect the difference between a light tap and a stronger push, creating many new avenues of navigation throughout the device. A sapphire sealing around the surface creates a shield to protect the device from harm while still being completely transparent and responsive to inputs.

The design of the wrist straps are also very customizable, as you can use a chemical and sweat resistant elastic band, a soft leather magnetic band, and a stainless-steel link or mesh bracelet, all with their own versions of an easy-to-use clasp or magnetic band that allows the user to put on and remove the watch with ease, with emphasis on it being comfortably secured to the users wrist. Each style comes with even more customizability, with a range of colors to choose from for each. Along with these, there is always the option for a slightly smaller version of the watch, with matching smaller straps as Apple understands that this is not a one-size-fits-all piece of technology.

Apple introduced “glances” as an easy way to see the most important information at a “glance.” This feature includes being able to conveniently check a schedule, the time and weather, the user’s location, as well as information from third party applications. Users can quickly respond to texts with suggested responses, take calls, and adjust music all within seconds. The watch can be connected to any Apple product you choose, such as your iPhone, MacBook, and other Bluetooth devices like speakers or headphones.

Vibrations for notifications have been included as well. Users will feel a small vibration when they get push notifications. The vibration is unnoticeable or heard by anyone but the user. The watch can also give directions by simply vibrating on either side of the user’s wrist, indicating where to turn.

This watch also includes a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, charges up to 18 hours, and has a magnetic charging cable which is included in the packaging once you get the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch will be available in two different sizes but will have different types of bands for you to choose from. Pre-orders begin on Friday, April 10, 2015, and the official release on April 24th. Originally it wasn’t available at the Apple Store; customers were able to make appointments for demonstrations and fitting, but the actual product wasn’t able to be sold just yet. The cost is at a reasonable price of $269, and makes it to where people are able to actually buy the product.

“(The) Apple Watch is designed to help anyone who wears it, live a healthier life by being more active. For people who just want to be more active throughout their day, to those who work out a few times a week, and to athletes committed to improving their performance. Apple Watch brings together the capabilities of an all-day fitness tracker and a highly advanced sports watch in one device you can wear all the time,” said Jay Blahnik, Director of Fitness, Health Technologies.

“We are introducing an unparalleled level of technical innovation combined with a design that connects with the wearer to both embrace individuality and design. The watch senses that you are raising your wrist and then activates the display. You see an organization of apps that well known and somehow familiar navigation is fluid and vital. Magnifying content on a small display is fundamentally important, so we’ve developed a whole new interface specifically towards the challenges associated with a product this small,” said Jony Ive,  Apple’s Senior VP of design.
