Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, announced the release of the brand new Apple Watch, on Sunday at the Apple Event taking place in Cupertino, California. At the release event, Cook maintained a calm and simple mannerism just like his minimalistic outfit he wore to put

the focus more on what he was about to shock the crowd with. “But we’re not quite finished yet,” Cook said, “we have one more thing.” The audience was cheering before Cook even announced that it was a smartwatch that Apple was releasing, and once he did, the audience applauded and cheered excitedly for the new innovation.

Lily Troung, a cook at the Forest dining hall is excited to check her steps and calories burned for the day. Apple watches are able to track things like this to help improve the health of users.

With this new development, Apple has modernized the world of smartwatches. The Apple watch is going to change the way that we look at smartwatches by making it able to do so much. Cook demonstrated the watch by showing the audience a promotional video that Apple had made of the watch to show its physical aspects. After the video finished playing, Cook rolled up his sleeves to reveal that he was wearing the Apple Watch.

Health and fitness is going to be one of the biggest aspects of the watch. “Apple Watch gives us the ability to motivate people to be more active and more healthy.” Cook said. The watch is for all types of fitness levels, so anyone can use it. There are two apps on the Apple Watch for health and fitness. The fitness app is to keep track of users activity and movement throughout their day. The workout app is going let users set personalized goals for workouts of their choice.  It is able to keep track of all of your physical activity and overall health and act like a personal trainer on your wrist.

The watch will come in two different sizes, 38mm and 42mm. Buyers will be able to choose between a stainless steel finish or a space black stainless steel finish. The screen of the watch is a touchscreen that wearers can easily interact with; additionally, on the side of the watch, there is a crown that will allow users to navigate their watch in a user-friendly way without obstructing the watch face display. The watch is equipped with a built-in speaker and microphone. Siri also comes with the Apple Watch. A long lasting battery life is something that the company wanted to ensure for its users, and they delivered. The Apple Watch has a battery life of up to 18 hours. Apple Watch wearers can also enjoy the water resistant feature that comes along with the smartwatch. This of course does mean that the watch has limits, so it can only endure sweat from exercising, rain, and water splash from washing hands. When buyers receive their brand new Apple Watch, they will also receive everything else that comes in the box. Along with the smartwatch, a magnetic charging cable, USB power adapter, watch band, and a quick start guide are all included in the box.

Apple wants wearers of the Apple Watch to be able to have their watch personalized to themselves. “It’s as much about personal technology, it is style and taste.” Cook said. With this, the watch is made to be customized in many ways. Wearers can purchase different colored bands, change the watch face display. “We thought not only of the function, but the way it looked.” Cook said. Since Apple watch users will be wearing the watch on their wrists everyday, Apple wanted them to like what they were wearing by allowing them to make it their own.

And will be able to pair with iPhone 5 and newer. Apple expects to have an even longer list of features as they continue to make more developments and improvements to the watch over time. Apple wants this new device to change and better the way that people are going about their everyday life. It is going to be a new part of people’s lives that will improve your day everyday. “Apple watch helps you live a better day” Cook said.

The apple watch is a very futuristic device with many features that can be useful in everyday lives. Apple is hopeful that this watch will improve people’s lifestyles.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — A new chapter in smart technology was unveiled this past Tuesday at Apple Headquarters in Cupertino, CA as Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, unveiled their latest device, the Apple Watch, to a very enthusiastic audience. The watch was revealed during Apple’s “One More Thing…” at the end of the September 9, 2014 keynote speech. “We love to make great products that really enrich people’s lives. … We love to make technology more personal and allow our users to do things they never could have imagined,” Cook said to the audience. Cook also stated that he believes that the Apple Watch will “redefine what people expect from its category.”

During the reveal video, it is shown that there is a great amount of customization that can be made to every watch so that it fits the style and personality of its user.

Iryna Dettmer strolls through the serene surroundings of Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, Indiana, utilizing the innovative fitness feature of her newly launched Apple Watch. Iryna uses the fitness feature to monitor her heart rate, track calories burned, and log the duration of her workout.

“Apple Watch is, of course, made to be worn, and it can be worn all day, for any occasion. It’s as much about personal technology as it is style and taste,” Cook said. While talking about the design of the Apple Watch, specifically the screen, Cook mentioned that it was a challenge to make something that would function well on such a small body. “With every revolutionary product that Apple has created, a breakthrough in user interface was required. … What we didn’t do was take the iPhone and shrink the user interface and strap it on your wrist. The display is too small,” explained Cook.

Cook plays a video narrated by Jony Ive, Apple’s Senior VP of Design. “We’re introducing an unparalleled level of technical innovation, combined with a design that connects with the wearer at an intimate level to both embrace individuality and inspire design,” Ive states. Ive describes the importance of developing an interface that works on such a small screen with the utilization of the digital crown, a device that allows users to scroll, zoom, and return to the home screen. Ive also mentions a new feature, called “Digital Touch”. This feature allows users to connect with other Apple Watch users by tapping your watch screen to get the other person’s attention, as well as share small drawings, or even something as personal as your own heartbeat.

Summer Prince, a student at Indiana University, uses the newly launched Apple Watch. Summer is using the easily accessible calculator feature to complete her math homework.

Ive mentions the design of the screen and ways they made it safe from damage yet still sensitive to touch. He mentions that they chose Sapphire, the second-hardest material behind diamond, to keep the display safe, while also implementing a screen that can sense the difference between a simple tap and a longer press of a button on-screen. Ive then backs up the creativity and individuality of the Apple Watch, talking about each individual watch finish, band, and customization of the home screen.

Apple Watch has limitless possibilities for customization. It can be customized and changed so that it will match your personality, and the ability to customize your Apple Watch’s main screen just adds another layer to the endless possibilities. Apple Watch also has the ability to reply to texts sent to your iPhone with a new technology Apple calls the quick board, which analyzes the text sent and automatically generates replies to the text, so you don’t have to try and type out a message on a tiny screen or pull out your iPhone and respond. You can also use the dictation feature, which allows you to respond to the text with either a voice message or speech-to-text, which takes what you say and writes it as a message as if you wrote it yourself. Apple also integrated its digital assistant, Siri, into the Apple Watch, so you can ask Siri questions without having to take out your iPhone.

Apple also integrated its maps app, so when you need directions to go somewhere, you can get those directions on your wrist. Apple utilizes the Apple Watch’s haptic engine to give you directions for left and right, with each direction having a unique feel so you can differentiate between the two.

With all of these new features, the Apple Watch is the next step in personal technology, with its seamless integration of all the classic features of the iPhone shrunk down into a small, wearable device. As well as its incredible variety of colors, bands, and faces, there’s an Apple Watch for everybody.

Tim Cook shares excitement for their new product, the Apple Watch, while the audience reciprocates the energy.

CUPERTINO, California [Sept. 9, 2014] — On Tuesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the first Apple Watch, a customizable smartwatch capable of tracking health and fitness, calling and texting, and receiving app notifications.

Ini Edet, an undergraduate student at Indiana University, utilizes the Apple Watch to call her friend. The Apple Watch can message, call, and communicate with other Apple devices from the user’s wrist.

The Apple Watch was announced to an enthusiastic audience at an event in Cupertino, California, at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts, which also debuted the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Cook left the stage as a video introducing the new smartwatch played, showcasing its innovative features that connect seamlessly with the iPhone. Soon after, Vice President of Apple Kevin Lynch walked on stage and demonstrated the watches’ capabilities. These included Siri and voice recognition, watch face personalization, digital touch communication, and the use of apps like Maps and Facebook. The Watch required an iPhone 5 or higher, which makes it already accessible to 200 million Americans.

Brian Pearce, a dad of two,  ties his shoes to go on a walk with his family. The Apple Watch lets users know how many steps they have taken and how many calories they have burned and recommends personal fitness plans based on their activity.

The Apple Watch debuted a stunning new feature with the ability to track users’ health and fitness. “An Apple Watch gives us the ability to motivate people to be more active and be more healthy,” Cook said. The activity app on the watch monitors all activity and movement throughout the day, including sensors that will detect heartbeat, steps, and distance traveled through GPS. The app also contains reminders to stand up at least once for 12 hours and allows users to set goals for steps and calories burned.

The app measures calories users have burned and is customized to the user’s body. It will also notify users when they’ve reached their goals for calories burned in a day. The exercise feature will trigger when doing anything more than a brisk walk, and users will receive a notification when they hit the worldwide recommendation of 30 minutes of daily exercise. The stand feature (stand ring) will track how long users stand up to take a break and will also track the time users sit during their days.

The Apple Watch is also highly personalizable, allowing users to choose different watch faces. The three models set for release in early 2015 include the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition, with a variety of band colors and materials to match every lifestyle. “Apple Watch is the most personal device we have ever created,” Cook said. The Apple Watch is designed for the user and made to connect with a user on a new, intimate level and embrace individuality. This ranges from the way users can design and arrange the apps on their home screen to being able to customize the way they navigate through third-party apps.

Apple Watch also includes many third-party apps, among them Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Apple Developers created WatchKit, an app that allows third parties to seamlessly integrate their software into the Apple Watch. This enables them to allow rich, actionable notifications just like one would receive on their iPhone. Users can receive a Twitter notification on the watch, click on it, and find customizable actions such as favoriting, retweeting, and liking, all from the comfort of their wrist. WatchKit also allows users to have and arrange third-party apps on their home screens. “These are just some of the examples of the great apps that are already underway for Apple Watch, that we just can’t wait to see what developers are going to create on this great new platform,” Apple Vice President Kevin Lynch said.

The Apple Watch is easily navigable using the Digital Crown on the side of the watch, as well as its highly sensitive retina display that can differentiate between a user’s press and tap. Its notification systems allow the use of discreet alerts that can be felt on the wrist. Additional features include Smart Reply, which suggests responses to text messages, and Digital Touch, which allows users to send quick drawings and audio messages to their friends with a few simple taps. The Apple Watch starts at $349 to release in early 2015. It will connect seamlessly with the iPhone 5 and up.

Kevin Lynch, the project manager for the Apple Watch, describes how the Watchkit app can be used by developers. Watchkit allows apps to be programmed to integrate seamlessly into the Apple Watch.

Jay Blahnik, Apple’s Director of Fitness and Health Technologies, explains the fitness feature of the new Apple Watch. Set to release in early 2015, the Apple Watch can track its user’s heartbeat, body movement, and daily steps.
