CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — Apple CEO, Tim Cook, unveiled their newest product, the Apple Watch— a revolutionary device with a beautiful design, completely customizable and tailored to fit each individual’s wants and needs. The Apple Watch, a smartwatch, was engineered for the most efficient maneuvering, with every feature accessible with the tap of a finger or the flick of your wrist. It is a wearable, and powerful tool that changes the way we interact with the world for the better. With its cutting edge features, Apple has created a watch that isn’t just a watch, but a powerful addition to our everyday experiences with technology.

“We set out to make the best watch in the world, one that is precise,” said Cook. “It’s incredibly customizable, so you can find one that reflects your personal style and taste. Because you wear it, we invented new intimate ways to connect and communicate directly from your wrist.”

The Apple watch was designed to redefine the world’s perception of wearable technology. The design of this product, both internally, as well as externally, was created specifically for user convenience. With the most simple of movements, the individual sporting their new Apple Watch has access to an incredible range of action. Combining the traditional, classic aspects of a typical watch, as well as almost all fitness tracker features, and those of the average smartphone, the Apple Watch truly does it all. This watch features a digital crown, a touch screen, a heart rate monitor, and a fitness tracker, not to mention access to the internet, and the ability to call and message.

With the Apple Watch’s first launch, Apple offers several sizes, styles, and finishes. It is available in two sizes, 38mm and 42mm, as well as in three collections— Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. The Apple Watch, the basic collection, is made with stainless steel, and is just as durable as it is appealing to the eye. The Apple Watch Sport is tailored to individuals with a more active lifestyle, featuring lightweight aluminum, and access to more durable band styles. From running to rock climbing, this collection was made for action. Finally, the Apple Watch Edition is the most luxurious of the three, featuring the elegant 14k gold finish. Being so customizable, Apple ensures that there is a watch for everyone. Like the watch itself, Apple also offers several styles of bands, including athletic bands, leather bands, and stainless steel bands with a wide variety of finishes. Your opportunity for self expression doesn’t stop here, as there are several opportunities to personalize internal features as well, such as your watch face’s theme, color scheme, and font.

Several Apple Watch designs that appeared in release video
A wide variety of Apple Watches cascade across the screen during the release video. Apple presents their development of a watch design for every lifestyle.

This groundbreaking technology is not only for aesthetics though, as it allows for a new, more convenient form of communication, acting as the perfect partner of the iPhone, but not just an extension of it. With its newly developed software, through the Apple Watch, the user can stay connected in several ways, including call, text, and interaction with Siri, Apple’s AI assistant. By using only your voice, or a simple gesture, users can reply to messages, check the weather, or set an alarm. Real-time notifications are also easily accessible, as well as several other apps.

Apple’s vision for their Apple Watch was to create a personal, convenient, and functional device for their users, and they did just that. To own an Apple Watch is to be healthy, connected, and entertained. With this device’s wide array of features, I have confidence that it will, and has, paved the way for many more wearable technology developments. The Apple Watch is revolutionary, reliable and truly a lifestyle.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CUPERTINO, California [Sept. 09, 2014] – Apple redefined the smartwatch when CEO Tim Cook unveiled the company’s new product, the Apple Watch, this Tuesday at the “Wish We Could Say More” Event in Cupertino, California.

Held at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts, Apple debuted its new product alongside the iPhone 6 line of smartphones. Cook showcased the product with Apple Vice President Kevin Lynch. As well as, British-American designer Johnny Ive and Apple’s Vice-President of Fitness Technologies Jay Blahnik.

The Apple Watch features a multitude of capabilities all designed to create a personal experience for the user. From a customizable timepiece to a brand new way for Apple users to communicate to an all-encompassing fitness tracker, the Apple Watch is tailor-made for whoever uses it. “We designed the Apple Watch as a whole range of products, enabling millions of unique designs and parallel personalization both in appearance and capability,” Ive said.

Aaron Stephen embraces the comfort of his new Apple Watch in his home in Whiteland, Indiana, on Feb. 14, 2025. Full of many capabilities for all age groups, the Apple Watch allowed accessibility and comfortability on your wrist.

The design choices in particular that make the Apple Watch unique for the wearer include interchangeable watch bands and multiple case options which go with three different models of the device available: the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition.

One of the new design choices that Apple made with the Apple Watch is the introduction of the Digital Crown which allows users to easily scroll through their Apple Watch device without anything obstructing their view. Should the user need to interact with the screen directly, the Apple Watch is able to detect both touch and force. This allows the watch to tell the difference between a tap meant to pause your music and a press meant to access contextually specific controls, that differ between app to app.

The apps available on the Apple Watch range from Apple designed apps to third party apps like Twitter or Pinterest. Third party app developers are able to use Apple’s WatchKit which will help them seamlessly integrate their own software onto the Apple Watch device. Any app on the apple watch will be able to provide automated functions for its users to quickly access.

The Apple Watch also comes with Digital Touch, the latest innovation by Apple. With Digital Touch wearers will be able to communicate with other Apple Watch wearers in new and unique ways. By tapping their screen in this function they can send physical vibrations to their friend’s device, users can draw pictures that will be sent and there is even the option to send your own heartbeat. This heartbeat function is just one of the many ways that Apple has made the Apple Watch more personal and intimate for their users. “That’s never been done before,” Lynch said. “It’s a really great aspect of this new form of communication with Digital Touch.”

Tara Stephen checks her Apple Watch to see if she hit her fitness activity rings for the day after coming home from her workout in Whiteland, Indiana, on Feb. 14, 2025. The Apple Watch allowed student athletes to be able to check their steps, heart rates and calories burned through the day.

What truly separates the Apple Watch from all other watches though is its fitness capabilities. It combines the information gathering technology of your typical fitness tracker with the easy to use and personal technology of an Apple device. Divided between two apps, the Fitness App and The Workout App, the Apple Watch is designed to give you a complete profile of your health.

The Fitness App is there to monitor all your activity and movement throughout the day as you wear the watch. It is then stored on your phone so you can track your day to day progress through something that is unique to you. In the Workout App the user is able to set personal goals based on how long they want to work out, the amount of calories they want to burn or even the distance you want to travel. You can also change your workout to fit whatever activity you are doing whether that is biking, running or lifting weights.

Over time the Apple Watch will become tailored to you and is designed to provide helpful and healthy reminders to keep you active throughout your day. These goals will be both personal and realistic to you and your everyday life so you’re not getting any unneeded stress when it comes to working out. “Apple Watch is going to greatly improve the way we keep track of our activity and change the way we look at fitness,” Blahnik said. “We think it’s going to help a lot of people live a better day and a healthier life.”

Users of both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5 lines of smartphones will be able to connect their phone to the watch and can access all the Apple Watch functions seamlessly. Starting at $349, all three models of the Apple Watch will be available for purchase in early 2015. “We think people are going to love to use Apple Watch,” Cook said.”It empowers people and enriches their lives. Apple Watch is the most personal device Apple has ever created.”

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) — Apple CEO, Tim Cook, reveals Apple’s latest product that is going to redefine the watch industry; the Apple Watch. This groundbreaking technology was announced at a convention in September 2014.

“We have one more thing,” Tim Cook said, before introducing the Apple Watch. He debuted Apple’s entry into the world of wearable technology. Apple’s first smartwatch blends the innovative technology that Apple is known for, with more customizability than any other watch on the market.

Apple is known for creating revolutionary products, including the iPod, Macintosh, and iPhone, and they have continued this tradition by introducing their new line of smartwatches. The Apple Watch has a combination of features that no other smartwatch can offer. The product is meant to embrace individuality, as “it’s as much about personal technology as it is style and taste,” Cook said. It has a level of customizability that outshines all its competitors, by offering three different models, multiple watch straps, and a sapphire crystal screen. With personability being an important characteristic, Apple offers distinct models of the Watch. Each is designed with unique features and materials that cater to the different preferences of Apple’s users. Whether you choose the stainless steel case of the Apple Watch, the lightweight aluminum of the Apple Watch Sport, or the luxurious 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition, they are all designed to fit seamlessly into users’ lives. In addition to the customizability that’s already offered, you can choose from a variety of watch faces and small widgets to further personalize your watch. The widgets are meant to display information that is important to the user, so you can choose from things like weather, the calendar, activity, and more.

A woman uses the Apple Watch to find a location on GPS. The touch screen allows users to scroll across the map with ease.

The personability of the Apple Watch isn’t the only thing that sets it apart from its competitors. The product is designed with an emphasis on health. The Apple Watch “has four sapphire lenses that contain infrared invisible LED lights along with photo sensors that detect your pulse rate,” said John Ive, senior VP of design, “using its gyroscope and accelerometer, and its GPS and wifi from your iPhone, the watch provides a comprehensive picture of your daily activity. This allows the watch to establish and suggest goals.” The design keeps users motivated and on track with their fitness goals. Never before has fitness been this easy to track.

A swim team student uses the Apple Watch to track his activity in the pool. The Apple Watch is capable of all normal functions in the waterproof setting.

Another aspect that makes the Apple Watch unique is the included features that users are already comfortable with and use every day. The product can receive calls, text messages, and notifications. It also offers the ultimate convenience for users who don’t always have the time to use their phones, as all the information they need is just a glance away on their wrist. A key feature that offers convenience is the watch’s ability to connect with Apple Pay, which allows users to make a payment directly from their wrist.

Overall, this new smartwatch presented by Apple is a bold and innovative product that will enrich users’ lives and infatuate the market. Users will love how personable and tailored the product is to their lifestyle. Daily tasks and fitness are made easier by tracking users’ activities straight from their wrists. This watch has successfully redefined the world of wearable technology. The Apple Watch will be available in stores worldwide on April 24th, 2015. It will come in two different sizes, 38 mm and 42 mm. Customers can expect to pay $349 for the 38 mm size and $399 for the 42 mm. However this will not mark the end of Apple’s innovative history, as it’s “the next chapter in Apple’s story,” Cook said.

The watches are split into three different collections: the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition, providing a plethora of options to choose from. Aside from the aesthetic of this watch, the Apple Watch promotes physical health and mental well-being, as it has a built-in heart monitor, an app to track your steps, and sends notifications to users, urging them to move their bodies and make healthier choices. The touch-screen feature paired with a digital crown that can be found on the side of this device makes it functional and easy to use at any time. The modern aesthetic of this watch offers a balance of functionality as well as style to users.

The Apple Watch is available in two different sizes, 38mm and 42mm, allowing buyers to select their preferred watch size based on personal preference as well as comfort. This customization ensures that the device caters to a wide range of users, accommodating different needs and style preferences. “It’s so simple and elegant, it’s something only Apple can do,” said Tim Cook. Apple has launched three different collections: the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. Each collection offers unique features, giving consumers a plethora of options to suit their needs.

Beyond aesthetics, the Apple Watch promotes both physical health and mental well-being. With a built-in heart monitor, users are able to track their heart rate in real time, helping them stay on top of their health. Additionally, a fitness app tracks daily activity, including steps taken and calories burned. In an effort to encourage healthier habits, the watch sends notifications periodically, reminding users to take a deep breath, move their bodies, and take time to practice mindfulness. These features make the Apple Watch extremely helpful for those dedicated to maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

Media expert Brian Andrews converses with students. He can be seen wearing the Apple Watch, a modern accessory, on his wrist.

The Apple Watch has a touch-screen display, ensuring that it is easy to use. It also features a digital crown on the side, which allows for easy scrolling and navigation without messing up the screen. The prioritization of physical controls makes the Apple Watch easy to use. Additionally, the device allows users to send messages, receive notifications, and make phone calls from their wrists. The Apple watch has a similar purpose to the iPhone; however, the design of the watch makes performing these tasks easier and more convenient for individuals.

Aesthetically speaking, the Apple Watch offers much room for customization and personalization. Users are able to switch out their watch bands, personalize their home screen, and choose from a variety of different watch colors. Because of the large amount of variety, the Apple Watch is extremely versatile, as you can customize it however you want for any occasion.

Max William, student at Indiana University, texts a friend using his Apple Watch. Max finds that his ability to communicate with others is very convenient, as he is able to wear this technological innovation on his wrist.

Aside from releasing the Apple Watch, Kevin Lynch, vice president of technology at Apple, Inc. discussed additional innovations such as working with third-party developers to extend their apps to the Apple Watch. By doing this, individuals will get the best of both worlds, as they will be able to access apps from their phones on their Apple Watches. Aside from this, Lynch discussed WatchKit, which is a framework provided by Apple that assists in developing applications for the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch encourages wellness, helps individuals be more productive, and makes everyday activities more convenient. Pairing technology with functionality, the Apple Watch has started a technological revolution of wearable devices. Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted the significance of this launch, stating, “it empowers people and enriches their lives, Apple Watch is the most personal device that Apple has ever created.”  Cook’s sentimental words portray Apple’s dedication to delivering innovative products that seamlessly integrate into users’ lives.

Apple introduces new and innovative technology

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – Tim Cook announced the release of the Apple Watch today at a press event. They were giving a speech about Apple and their products when all of a sudden on the big screen there were the words “one more thing…” displayed for the crowd.

This Apple Watch is a new, everyday, useful product. Not only is the Apple Watch new but it is also incredibly innovative. The Apple Watch allows you to communicate with whoever you may need quite literally right from your wrist.

Mike, IU Faculty member, checks his wrist as he receives a notification bell. Apple watch allows users to check and respond to text messages at ease.

Now, this Apple Watch is not like any other digital watches we have ever seen before. The Apple Watch is supposed to be the next best watch in the world. It is a great new technology tool that you can wear all day long and for any occasion that you might need.

The Apple Watch is a touch screen watch that has any and all of the same features that are on the iPhone. You can call, text, or email someone. If you need to send a text to someone, it delivers it in 50 milliseconds. You also have a calculator app on the Watch, that is so convenient. There is no need to whip out your iPhone when you need to set an alarm or even set a timer because you can do that from your apps on your new Apple Watch.

Also, on top of this Apple Watch being your new personal communication device and fashion accessory, it can be used for fitness as well. The Apple Watch has a comprehensive health and fitness design so that you can track your daily habits. Some of those health habits are the three circles you are encouraged to close by the end of your day. Those circles are your standing goal, your exercise goal and your move goal.

This Apple Watch is not like any watches we have seen before. It is easy to use because Apple created a crown on the side of the Watch that allows you to navigate all over the screen without blocking your view. That crown button on the side is also able to be used to get back to your homescreen on the watch. Another part of the Apple Watch that makes it uncomplicated to use is the charger. “The back crystal also houses a unique charging solution that combines our MagSafe technology with inductive charging,” according to the Apple Watch Introduction video. In other words, the charger for the Apple Watch uses a normal block to be put into an outlet but then on the end of the cord, there is a magnetic circle that allows you to place the back of your watch on. When the back of the Apple Watch is close to the front of the charger it automatically connects and forms a tight seal.

CUPERTINO, California (Sept. 9, 2014) – Groundbreaking “Apple Watch” launched Tuesday at the annual conference by Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, in Cupertino, CA, providing Apple users with a never-before level of technological personalization.

Apple’s annual conference, its “Special Event”, was held at the Flint Center for Performing Arts in Cupertino, California, hosting around two thousand Apple enthusiasts brimming with excitement over the unexpected announcement of the Apple Watch. In the last segment of the conference, Tim Cook, CEO, dressed casually in a button down and jeans, announced that there was “one more thing.” The Apple Watch was then launched with a seamless, professional video highlighting both the beauty, form, and capabilities of the product itself.

“Apple Watch is the most personal device we have ever created,” Cook said. “We sought out to make the best watch in the world.” The watch works seamlessly with the iPhone, and also acts as a fitness device, with a fully customizable user interface and endless capabilities. The Apple Watch, like both the iPod and iPhone before it, utilizes its own navigational technology, this time, the digital crown of the watch.

Made to be worn, the watch is “just as much about technology as it is style and taste,” Cook said. He then introduced a video about the design of the watch, narrated by Jony Ive, Senior VP of Design for Apple, which went into more detail of the capabilities the watch possessed. The watch senses when it is being raised, and lights the screen up, as well as providing smart responses, efficient display of information, and a button to immediately show favorite contacts.

The watch boasts an impressive retina display, laminated and hardened with sapphire, the hardest material after diamond. As well as sensing touch, the interface senses force, adding an additional dimension to the user experience – providing access to an entirely different range of controls. The audio is provided by a Taptic device inside of the watch itself, gently physically alerting the user to notifications, along with a water-resistant speaker for alerts. The heart of the watch is the S1 chip – an entire computer system on the inside of a watch.

The Apple Watch detects heart rate, steps, and activity, which allows the product to suggest goals based on daily activity levels. Upon completion, the user is awarded with badges. The watch itself is incredibly accurate, using multiple technologies, keeping accuracy to plus or minus 50 milliseconds.

There is a range of watch faces available, as well as customizable interfaces and the physical straps of the watch itself. There is a sports band, a leather band with concealed magnets for ease of adjustment, a classic leather buckled watch, a stainless steel bracelet, and a Milanese loop with a magnetic closure. Jony Ive acknowledged that “one size wouldn’t fit everyone,” and explained the availability of two watch sizes, and three watch versions. The original Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport, and the Apple Watch Edition. The sport Collection has a case that is 60% stronger than that of typical steel, and the Edition Collection boasts 18k gold.

Kevin Lynch then took the stage to deliver the very first live demo of the Apple Watch. He succinctly and confidently demonstrated the navigation of the watch using the digital crown, the touchscreen, and the haptics. The watch boasts an analog watch face, a watch face featuring the Earth and solar system, and many more. Personal control of music and calendar are also available. He then demonstrated how to haptically draw to send and receive text messages, send and receive heart rate, and communicate with notification prompts.

The Apple Watch and iPhone have been designed to seamlessly work together, updating each other on activity, sending emails, texts, and everything in between.

The Apple Watch will be available for purchase starting in early 2015 starting at $349 (US). It is compatible with iPhone 5, 5c, 6, 6s, and 6s Plus, or any phone running the latest version of iOS8. The Apple Watch is beautiful, functional, and something to enrich people’s lives. It is the most personal device Apple has ever created.

The Apple Watch launch was announced by Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, on Monday, September 9th at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California. Cook said that he “believes this product will redefine what people expect from its category and is the next chapter in Apple’s story.” An incredibly detailed and aesthetically pleasing video was displayed to the audience, showcasing the new Apple product and its multitude of uses. As Cook returned to the stage to go more in-depth about the watch, he was met with a standing ovation from the crowd. Cook said the Apple Watch is “the most personal device we’ve ever created” and talked about how customers are able to apply their own style and personalization to the product.

The product is much more than just a watch, as it also taps into health and fitness, communication, and a multitude of other extensions. Cook explained how similar to the mouse on the Mac and the click wheel on the iPod, Apple “placed extra functionality in a mechanism that has been on the watch for decades.” Apple turned the traditional dial into a “Digital Crown,” which allows users to zoom in and out, scroll through a list, and also acts as a home button for the Apple Watch. Many other important functions include pressing the button located underneath the digital crown allowing users to contact friends in seconds, as well as glances allowing the user to swipe through information quickly, including weather, time, health, and calendar. The watch works seamlessly with the iPhone and allows customers to access a large variety of apps directly from their wrist.

The Apple Watch is easily accessible as it senses when users are raising their wrist and instantly illuminates, displaying a home screen with apps that are already familiar to Apple users. Users have the ability to respond to messages on their watch using smart replies, as well as answer phone calls. Although the Apple Watch prides itself on being technologically advanced, it also is focused on its exterior. Cook said that Apple was incredibly careful and deliberate when creating the Apple Watch and showed a second video discussing the background that went into the design of the watch. The flexible retina display is laminated to a polished single crystal of sapphire which is the second hardest transparent material after diamond.

Not only does the product encourage users to embrace their individuality, but it also provides haptic feedback and sound to further enhance the customer experience. Jony Ive, Apple’s senior VP of Design said, “We have worked closely with horological experts from around the world to help us understand the cultural and historical significance of timekeeping, and this has profoundly informed our design.” Cook went into detail about the multitude of different bands, colors, and styles available to accommodate the various lifestyles that their customers lead. These different straps and bands are also easily interchangeable so that customers can quickly maximize comfortability and versatility throughout their day. Anything from stainless steel, to sweat and chemical-resistant bands, Apple wants to provide customers with optimum comfort and style no matter what their goals are.

Cook also mentioned how Apple created three different types of Apple watches including, the Apple Watch, Apple Sport, and Apple Edition. Cook said, “We designed Apple Watch as a whole range of products enabling millions of unique designs unparalleled personalization both in appearance and capability.” Starting at $349, Cook urged consumers that “the Apple Watch empowers people and enriches their lives.” Apple is incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that was put into bringing this product to fruition and they can’t wait to share it with the world.
