A Hoosier that takes pride in IU is an understatement to describe Indiana University Diver Andrew Capobianco. After competing and receiving a silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Capobianco returned to IU to compete for his fifth year and his sixth year of eligibility. He says he owes a large portion of his success to his team, coaches, and the IU Swim & Dive program. 

Capobianco chose Indiana for college to further his career in diving, with his sights set on the Olympics. The program had produced 3 Olympians prior to his commitment, and his diving partner, Michael Hixon, was a part of that crew. The training at IU did not fail Capobianco, as his dream of the Olympics came true. In 2020, Capobianco went to Tokyo Japan, where he won a silver medal in the synchronized 3 meter dive with Hixon. 

Despite competing at the highest levels for diving, Capobianco continues to return to train and compete with the Hoosiers. He has found a purpose in coming back to IU through his teammates and staff. He aims to be a role model for the younger divers, just as the older divers were for him. His loyalty does not go unnoticed, and the younger divers love having Capobianco on the team. They look up to him as a role model and a leader on the team. Each diver has a story about Capobianco, all of them proving what a positive influence he is to those around him.

Although the Olympics is the highest level one can reach, Capobianco is no stranger to success in diving. He started as a 5 time junior national champion starting at the young age of 15. As he got older, he aged into the senior bracket and is now a four time senior national champion. Capobianco has also been a member on the Junior Pan American Championships team, the Junior World Championships team, the World Cup team, and the Pan American Games team. He has traveled the world for diving and loved every minute of it. 

Capobianco feels that hard work and dedication will always pay off. He says everyone has to start somewhere, and all it takes is the first jump! It may seem as though Capobianco was born to be a diver, but until the age of 10, he did not even know diving was a sport! He urges people to explore opportunities and take chances when they can.
