A custodian at
Bloomington High School North was suspended and arrested after allegedly attempting to film girls in the swim locker room last Thursday.
A 36-year-male, William Marrs, admitted to placing a cell phone inside the girls swim locker room. Marrs was arrested on preliminary charges of child exploitation and voyeurism.
Police say the extent of the video is unknown and they are trying to retrieve a search warrant for the cell phone. Marrs tells the police this is his first time doing something like this, but that information is not confirmed.
Bloomington High School North sent an email to parents explaining the situation and stating the custodian has been suspended and arrested.
Monroe County Community School Corporation spokesperson, Andrew Clampitt says Bloomington North is changing all of the school locks and requiring custodians to work in pairs from now on.
“We would encourage anyone if they see something say something, and that’s always our encouragement to remain vigilant,” Clampitt said. “That’s our first and foremost focus is the safety and security of those student and staff while they’re in our buildings.”
Bloomington North held a public meeting on Thursday November 8 at 7 p.m. to hear the concerns from parents, students and coaches about the incident. He says the school district will be releasing a statement about the incident.
Unrelated to the incident, Clampitt says, the Bloomington High School North Principal is now on leave effective immediately. Micheal Akers, after serving for almost two years, will not return to the school. the district is not explaining the leave, citing privacy rights. Another email was sent to parents stating Superintendent Andrea Mobley and former Principal Betty Anderson will assume the position until a replacement is found.
Clampitt says Bloomington High School North will continue to uphold it’s success in academics and athletics despite the set backs this week. He says the school will be making more changes in regards to safety and the leave of Principal Akers in the coming weeks.
