Eclaras, Bloomington’s newest thrift store officially opened just over a month ago.
In addition to several other stores, shoppers have another option for thrifting consisting of different prices and a items. Students and Bloomington residents can now also sell their own items at the store by paying a small fee to rent space within it.
As a result, these vendors receive around 70 to 80 percent of the revenue made from their items being sold while the store receives the remaining 20 to 30 percent.
Consisting of vintage clothing and memorabilia, shoppers have a wide variety of items to browse and select from.
“I’d say our competitive is mostly the fact that I don’t have to buy any inventory so my overhead is really low and I get to rent booths to a lot of individuals who get to sell their stuff,” said Schyler Marolf, store owner. Schyler also noted that Fridays have so far tended to be the busiest days for Eclaras as well as the entire week leading up to Homecoming.
Quinn Manley, one of the stores main vendors discussed his experience thus far with selling his items at Eclaras along with the benefits of its competitive edge. “It’s a great opportunity for small businesses and people with second-hand clothing, apparel, up-cycling. Basically, you can find anything here,” said Quinn.
Eclaras has been receiving increasing amounts of new inventory shipments from vendors every week expanding their selections even more.
Located on South Walnut Street, Eclaras is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
