The Hoosier Times newspaper group has announced 17 job cuts from the company. Six of those cuts come from Bloomington’s publication, the Herald Times. The newspaper industry has been experiencing these kinds of cut-backs with the rise of the digital marketplace.

Herald Times editor Bob Zaltberg says the job eliminations stem from rising costs such as print tariffs, advertising competition and low subscription numbers and decreased revenues.

Despite the changing industry Zaltsberg says young journalists should be excited about the changes, as opposed to being intimidated. He says he cannot tell how journalism will evolve, but he and his team will continue to adapt to the changing times and serve their community.

The positions lost come from different departments within the paper. Some of the employees left the paper immediately and others will stay for a transitional period.
