IU Filmmaker’s Heading to Cannes Film Festival

IU filmmakers, Dakota Taylor and Caleb Wallace, are headed to the Cannes Film Festival this May. Their short film Probie was nominated as part of the 72nd Annual Court Métrage Short Film Corner at the Festival De Cannes. Probie won the top prize at the Campus Movie Fest, as well as nominations for “Best Drama” and “Best Director.” The five minute short film is even available on Amazon Prime. Check out a sneak peak below.

Taylor’s dad is a firefighter so he wanted to help break firefighter stereotypes by showing the emotional struggles that they go through while on the job. The film is about a probationary firefighter coming to terms with the realities of the job. Once they had secured the Bloomington Fire Department, Taylor, Wallace and the rest of the crew only had a week to film, edit, and turn in the finished product.

Taylor and Wallace have known each other since they were toddlers and have been friends ever since. They have always wanted to make a short film and liked the idea of creating a drama.
