IU Pro Day – Fulfilling The Dream

Another NFL Draft class means another Pro Day at Indiana University. April 2nd kicked off a special day full of reuniting with former players and a number of different workouts for the Hoosiers at the annual Indiana Football Pro Day. A total of 12 athletes began showcasing their skillsĀ  with hopes to take their dreams to the next level.

This was an opportunity to show scouts what they had been preparing for their whole lives.

Living The Dream

Playing the in the NFL is a dream that most football players hope to accomplish someday. For Mike Majette and 11 of his former teammates, that dream was in very close proximity when they got to participate in IU’s annual pro day.

Mike Majette has been a key part of the Indiana offense for the past four years. Majette, a part of the 2015 recruiting class with Coach Kevin Wilson, had been waiting on the day since freshman year.

“It’s always been a dream of mine, I’ve been playing since I was five and I’ve been dreaming about it since then.” said Majette.

Just like most kids that have played football, Majette’s ultimate goal was to play in the NFL.

The individual Pro Day(s) that each college held comes after the NFL combine concludes. It allows a chance for those who were and were not invited to the combine to show the NFL scouts what they can do and what sets them aside from other draftees.

Prepping for Pro Day

The fellow senior Hoosiers finished their season on the downside, after falling short to in-state rival Purdue, 21-28 back in November. Now they have all shifted their focus now to the NFL, preparing themselves for a day that could change their lives and the lives of their families forever. It all began with the preparation and training for the big day.

The Hoosiers prepped with Director of Athletic Performance, Rick Danison months leading up to their big day. Danison also served as Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach with the Cincinnati Bengals, so he knows first-hand what the NFL scouts are looking for in a player.

The intense training’s with Coach Rick began immediately after winter break concluded. Coach Rick, the 12 Hoosiers and his whistle met every day.

“We started the first week of January and went for about 12 or 13 weeks” Coach Rick stated. “There wasn’t a day that we weren’t training, (besides Saturday’s and Sunday’s,) and they loved it and I enjoyed it as well.”

As essential as the 40-yard dash is, Coach Rick says they never ran past the 10-yard line. There was a method to his madness.

Coach Rick solely wanted the players to focus on the way they began each of the seven workouts the scouts had lined up for them.

“The workouts and preparation with Coach Rick was really intense, but worth it.” stated former Indiana WR, Tyler Green.

Post-Pro Day

What’s next for NFL Draft prospects post-pro day circuit? Players have a lot to prepare for ahead of the NFL Draft. All 12 of the Hoosiers are preparing for Spring Commencement at IU. Also, many Hoosiers will meet privately with interested teams in the coming weeks.

The NFL Draft takes place Thursday, April 25th in Nashville.
